Challenges ahead for Air Force hoops

Air Force’s 78-57 loss at Weber State ended the Falcon’s 2012-13 season with an 18-14 (8-8 MWC) record. Although the Falcons didn’t make it to the Big Dance they did earn a bid to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they won Air Force’s first ever postseason game. However, with five starters graduating it’s time to reload or rebuild.

Air Force gets win over Hawaii in CIT

It has been a tumultuous few weeks for the Air Force Falcons. Since the last update the Falcons beat #12 New Mexico in a shocker, got run off the floor by the Running Rebels of UNLV after losing Mike Lyons to injury and sat at home watching the news in disbelief as the NIT selection committee snubbed the Falcons.

Air Force's dream of an at-large bid in the 2013 NCAA Tournament is done. The Falcons will have to win three games in Las Vegas at the Mountain West Tournament to make the Big Dance, so this Wednesday's road game at San Diego State offers coach Dave Pilipovich a chance to talk to his team about the importance of composure in an unfriendly environment.

It's been a tough few weeks for Air Force basketball with the Falcons losing 4 of 5 games in a row, but the Falcons got the train on the right track finally with a much needed win at home versus Wyoming this past Wednesday. But it does not get any easier this week as the Falcons hit the road for two road games before finishing up at Clune Arena vs top ranked in the MWC New Mexico.

Second Scouting Report: Boise State

Sometimes, your best isn't good enough, and you just tip the cap to the opposition. Air Force played a genuinely terrific basketball game this past Saturday, doing the things it needed to do to win, but Colorado State – one of the top two teams in the Mountain West Conference – was better. The Falcons need to remember how well they played and carry that form to Boise, Idaho.

No. 15/16 Lobos strong arm AFA 81-58

In New Mexico Lobos lore, a “Pit Game” is one for the books. And the Lobos 81-58 win before 15,373 in The Pit Wednesday night was certainly that. It was a duel for sole possession of 1st place against Air Force replete with challenges from the Falcons. A second half altercation overshadowed UNM’s stout defensive effort. But in the end, the incident became the catalyst for the win.
