Postgame Interview: Sam Schwartzstein

Stanford’s offensive line returned to form against Notre Dame, keeping Andrew Luck from taking a single sack while dominating the line of scrimmage and opening huge holes for the running game. Center Sam Schwartzstein, a first-year starter, was one of the keys to that effort.

Week Two Notebook

If it’s possible for a 57-3 win to be somewhat disappointing, Stanford’s season-opening defeat of San Jose State certainly fits the bill. The Card certainly played well – its run defense was fantastic, and the team was nearly mistake-free, but its performance wasn’t as dominant as the score would indicate.

Cardinal starters down White backups 42-3

Stanford football concluded its NCAA allowance of 15 spring practices on Saturday with the annual Cardinal & White spring game, held at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. The game gave Stanford fans their last chance to get a look at the team before the Cardinal’s opener against San Jose State in September. The Cardinal team, comprised primarily of the team’s starters, beat the White team, 42-3.

Luck holds court with media

Coming off a 12-1 season, an Orange Bowl victory and a Heisman runner-up, there is certainly more pressure on Stanford heading into this year. But much like they did during the 2010 campaign, the Cardinal’s heady players aren’t allowing the outside hype to go to their heads. Here, The Bootleg catches up with a former high school valedictorian, Andrew Luck.

"We Walk!" #10: OL Jacob Gowan [#56]

Installment #10 in our scintillating 12-part “We Walk” series profiling Stanford's freshman walk-ons takes us to the imposing subject of Jacob Gowan, the only non-scholarship offensive lineman in the outstanding 2009 class. Realistically, “Plowin’” Gowan doesn't expect to take the field this first season, but he is learning quickly, has excellent size and is in possession of a positive attitude.
