Huskies back on the NFL Warpath

SEATTLE - Doug Farrar, NFL Analyst for Yahoo Sports, happened to ask Pete Carroll a question the week after Washington defeated Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl this past December. From 0-12 to a Holiday Bowl win, what does this say about Steve Sarkisian, queried Farrar. Carroll, now with the Seattle Seahawks, was clear in his praise about Sarkisian, his former offensive coordinator at USC.

Dawg Blog - Nebraska

It's week three, and for some reason week three always brings about a tough opponent for Washington of late. USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State...it's been a virtual bloodbath at home. This weekend is no different, as the No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers come calling. Can the Huskies pull out a little last-second magic, as they did last year against the No. 3-ranked Trojans? Or will it a lopsided affair?

Dawg Blog - Syracuse

Wednesday was not a good one for the Washington Huskies, as Will Mahan was diagnosed with a season-ending injury, and running back Johri Fogerson is doubtful to play this Saturday against Syracuse. We spoke with UW Head Coach Steve Sarkisian to get his thoughts on the injuries, as well as his take on the team bouncing back from their loss to BYU.

The media caught up with Steve Sarkisian one last time before the Washington Huskies head off to Utah for their hotly anticipated clash with BYU Saturday at 5 PM MST. He talked about the availability of Brandon Huppert, Greg Ducre, Kalani Aldrich, James Johnson - and also gave us the team's itinerary for Friday as they travel to Salt Lake City.

Huskies need to become road warriors

Washington coach Steve Sarkisian has said since the day he became coach at Washington in December 2008 that he doesn't expect the turnaround to take very long. A 5-7 record last season in his first year appeared to get the train going on the right track. Now his second year begins with a golden opportunity for a significant breakthrough as the Huskies open on Saturday at Brigham Young.

Fall Preview: Linebackers

Just as is the case with the defensive line, the linebackers are going to have to pick up the slack left by the departure of two productive players. They have no choice. The good news is that Mason Foster and Cort Dennison combined for the same number of tackles Donald Butler and E.J. Savannah had in 2009 - 137. The bad news? Well, if you just go by the numbers, there's plenty to go around.

Thursday Workout Report

It was as nice a day as you could want in Seattle Thursday, as 81 Washington Huskies showed up for another competitive workout session. This one lasted anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours, depending on who you were and what position you played. Overall, the work rate was high and there was plenty of enthusiasm to go around.

Defense Improving without Significant Pieces

After three weeks of spring ball and 11 practices, the Husky defense is starting to exert itself in the weekly standoffs called scrimmages. Here’s a little progress report on the Husky defenders as I see them in practice. Even though they lost their two best players from last year in Donald Butler and Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, I think as a group they are making some great strides to fill those voids.

Everything up for grabs

SEATTLE - If it wasn't clear by Tuesday, Steve Sarkisian put it out there in big bold letters: Every Spot is Available. There is no depth chart right now, the UW Head Coach said after the Huskies' 10th practice of the spring. He wanted more physical play up front, he got it. He wanted to see different combinations of linemen on both sides of the line of scrimmage - he got that too.

Squad size hurts team work

The system has been implemented: The culture has been changed; the recruiting is excellent; the General is definitely in charge. That’s my current opinion of Husky Football. Call me nuts, but I think this head coach will be here for at least 15 years and win this program many championships.

Huskies gear up for first scrimmage

SEATTLE - No offense to Rebecca Stevenson, but Steve Sarkisian might be doing his own meteorology from now on. Washington's Head Football Coach took a look at Thursday's forecast and decided to hold UW's fifth spring practice inside. Then he started looking outside. Apparently word is that he'll be carrying a barometer in his back pocket for the rest of spring.

Speaking to Steve Sarkisian after Tuesday's practice, he had the look of a man who was in his comfort zone. With all his coaches back, their offensive, defensive and special teams systems in place, as well as his starting quarterback in tow, Sarkisian led a two hour-plus workout amid blustery, gray skies and everything looked like it went off without a hitch, at least until the very end.
