      <description>Even before Martez Wilson was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his neck and forced to undergo surgery and miss the 2009 season, the Illini made contingency plans for his absence.  Since Wilson didn't play against Illinois State, Ian Thomas played middle linebacker, and Russell Ellington played weakside linebacker.  Ellington is now more important to Illini plans.</description>
