Dennison Leads UW Seniors into Last Apple Cup

This Saturday’s Apple Cup at the Clink will be the last game for my favorite Husky, Cort Dennison, and rest of this year’s graduating seniors. They get to go “downtown” and host their biggest rival, the Washington State Cougars, and if any group of Huskies ever deserves to go out with one last win, it’s this group.

Dawg Blog - USC

Now that 24 hours have passed since Oregon's 34-17 win over Washington, the Huskies have to rebound quickly to face another tough test - a road game against the USC Trojans. But the upside is that Steve Sarkisian has had the Trojans' number the two times he's faced them as UW's Head Coach. Check the blog often for news, notes, and quotes all week long as UW prepares to tackle Troy!

SEATTLE - Kim Grinolds, Scott Eklund, Chris Fetters, and Scott Panitz of Dawgman.com once again convened upon the Founders Club at Washington to hash out the finer points of UW's 52-24 trouncing of Colorado at Husky Stadium. With first-half offensive fireworks rivaling anything seen around these parts for a decade, there was plenty to chew on post-game.

Seniors Have Chance to Re-establish Tradition

This year’s Husky senior class is a mix of two classes, with seven true seniors from the class of 2008 and 12 red-shirt, or fifth year, players from the class of 2007. There are five who entered the program as walk-ons and of the 19 scholarshipped seniors, 10 have started at least one game. They are all from the Tyrone Willingham era, and all of them were here for that simply awful 0-fer season.

Fall Camp Review - Defense/Special Teams

With the offense already looked at, it's now time to take stock in Washington's defense and special teams. How did they finish off fall camp? How is the depth at each position? Who has moved up and moved down the depth chart? Slowly but surely, UW Defensive Coordinator Nick Holt has built a defense with bigger, faster, and stronger athletes, long on toughness and smarts.

Keys to success - Defense

Washington will need to find a replacement for Mason Foster, perhaps the best defensive player in the Pac-10 last season. Husky fans will finally have an idea of just how dependable and valuable he was now that he’s gone. Replacing him is one of five keys to how successful this Washington defense will be in 2011.

Post-Spring Review: Cornerbacks

It was a big theme of spring football at Washington; depth, injuries, and the players coming into roles of their own for the Huskies. Those thoughts were magnified at the cornerback position, which was a bit of an ironic twist because UW has arguably two of the best cornerbacks in the Pac-12 right now in Desmond Trufant and Quinton Richardson.

2011 Recruiting Rundown

Now that Signing Day is done, Dawgman has taken the time to sort through the rubble to see where how Washington Huskies finished out the recruiting process. Did they finish out the way they wanted to? Did they address all their needs? Did they get a solid mix of stars and team players? Was their haul effectively balanced between offense and defense?

Looking beyond the Holiday Bowl, Part II

Washington won their last three games in a row, and not only earned a trip to the Holiday Bowl, but they got a huge measure of revenge in beating Nebraska. That is a great reward not only for a team that worked so hard to overcome a three-game losing streak, but also for a program that has not been to the post season in nearly a decade.
