PLAYER POST-GAME: Vandals discuss SJSU game

Saturday afternoon's loss to San Jose State by a final score of 30-24 was a much closer game than most expected for a Spartan team battling for a bowl berth and a Vandal team continuing to rebuild in the second year of the Robb Akey era. Sophomore linebacker Jonathan Faraimo was joined by Nathan Enderle, Lee Smith, and Eddie Williams in the post-game press conference to discuss the game.

A pair of linebackers finished among Idaho's top five tacklers in Saturday afternoon's Homecoming game against New Mexico State.
TWO MINUTE DRILL: LB Jonathan Faraimo

HE'S ONE OF THE STRONGEST ATHLETES on the 2008 Vandal football team - with a bench press in excess of 400 pounds as a freshman - and made an immediate impact on Idaho's defense last year as a gray shirt freshman. This spring JONATHAN FARAIMO (5-11, 238) climbed to the top of the middle linebacker depth chart, successfully transitioning from the defensive end position he played last fall.

HEAD STRENGTH COACH SCOTT GADEKEN: "I don't know what a lot of schools around the WAC are doing, I can only control what happens here at the University of Idaho. But being at Kansas State for 3 years and LSU for 5 years, I would say we're on the right track. We're doing a good job of recruiting, and getting kids here that want to work and be coached. We are making positive steps every day."

Vandal Strength Program UPDATE

Four years ago, before joining the WAC, there reportedly wasn't a Vandal football player that could bench 400 lbs, and few were close. But since the new Iverson Strength and Speed Center opened in 2004, Idaho's strength program has boomed. Now redshirt freshmen JONATHAN FARAIMO and Jonah Sataraka press 400-pounds, with more on the cusp. Inside we talk with Strength Coach Scott Gadeken.

PHOTO GALLERY: Idaho vs La Tech

Although Idaho's offense struggled yesterday, redshirt freshman tailback DEONTE JACKSON passed the 1000-yard mark for the season and Idaho led this game 16-14 in the fourth quarter thanks to a tremendous defensive and special teams effort. But Idaho's inability to score took its toll as the Bulldogs mounted two fourth quarter TD drives for the 28-16 win. (All images inside by Larry Johnson)
