Cougar kicking game

The Cougar fan base is hoping BYU can remedy its kicking issues from last season. Justin Sorensen did well at times last year but also struggled at times. It’s certain much of that was due to his back issues, which affected his kicking.

Sorting out the kicking duties

To start the season, Riley Stephenson was responsible for punting, kickoff and field goal duties. Then there was a period of time when field goal kicking seemed to be by committee. During the Notre Dame game, Justin Sorensen was given the full responsibility of kicking field goals.

No Place Safe From Sorensen

It has been boldly stated on Total Blue Sports that Bingham High School kicker Justin Sorensen is one of the top high school kickers in the country. During Friday’s matchup, a contest that resembled last year’s 5-A State Championship game against Alta, Sorensen helped solidify the point.

BYU Gets Second Commit in Three Days

In basketball, coaches will encourage their teams to feed the hot shooter. For BYU football, that advice may need to be adjusted to feed the hot recruiter. Cougar coaches wasted no time in following up on their huge verbal commitment from elite tight end prospect Austin Holt. Today they got a commitment from a recruit who is also among nation’s best at his position.

Top Utah Kicker Receives National Attention

It is pretty impressive when a kicker can put the football through the goal posts on kickoffs, and when that kicker is a high school junior, it is downright amazing. The first team all-state kicker at the 5A level in Utah wowed fans, coaches, and recruiters throughout the 2006 season, and it was not just by splitting the uprights on kickoffs.

Cougars Mining the Miners

Under the direction of head football coach Dave Peck, Bingham High School rolled through the regular season and then the state playoffs. The Miners defeated Alta High School in the finals to become 2006 Utah 5A state football champions. BYU received verbal commitments from two of Bingham’s star seniors, and the Cougars have the possibility of adding more Miner commits in the near future.
