Mangum talks about transfer decision

Washington loses at least one of its starting linebackers this year and may lose another one unless E.J. Savannah gets his sixth-year of eligibility from the NCAA. However, redshirt freshman LB Kurt Mangum saw the writing on the wall this past season when he didn't get much in the way of reps during fall camp and then was a bystander during the Huskies' 5-7 season...

Dawgman Insider Blog: August 2009, PART TWO

With the days ticking ever closer to Washington's September 5th clash with LSU, the more Steve Sarkisian is thinking about the game. More specifically, how the mechanics of the game are going to go. With that in mind, as well as the thought that he wants his team as fresh as possible going into their battle with the Bayou Bengals, it appears that full pads are done for fall camp.

Getting things cleaned up

SEATTLE - Friday was earmarked as a clean-up day by Steve Sarkisian, but as it turned out he wasn't the only one at Washington looking to clean up some loose ends. Washington Athletic Director Scott Woodward spoke about WSU's decision to abruptly end talks that could have netted UW and WSU roughly $10 million apiece by playing the Apple Cup at Qwest Field for six years, starting in 2010.

SEATTLE - As Trick Daddy's 'Take it to the House' was winding down, the music fading from the speakers alongside the field at Husky Stadium, you could hear the DJ's marching orders from Steve Sarkisian: "Play me a good song!" Slowly, AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' come busting through the woofers and tweeters as the Huskies marched through the rest of their team period.

When you come from out of nowhere to sign with a Pac 10 school like Donald Butler and Mason Foster did, it’s expected that it will take you some time to acclimate to D-1 football. However, the two Washington linebackers both started as freshman and now both are being looked at heavily to lead a defense that is desperate need of playmakers.

Let’s not rush to judgment on E.J. Savannah and let the proper channels sort out where, when, and how he is going to help this Husky football team. No question when you lose your leading tackler there is going to be some adjustment. Whether its academics or injury it really doesn’t effect how you think as a coach. He is not there; so you replace and move on.
