The Questions or the Answers?

Spring football is just three weeks away. That’s how it is
in Nebraska. There’s football season and then there is the waiting for football
season to arrive. But this time can and sometimes is where we can have the most
fun. It’s when we think about all the questions which should have answers after
football season is finished.

Happy for the heat, enjoying the experience

Junior quarterback Zac Lee may be a California guy, but that doesn't mean he's spent much time in San Diego. The bowl trips always offer something new and interesting for players. And for Lee, he's eager to take advantage of the rare opportunities a time like this provides.

Holiday Bowl Report: Back to basics for Lee?

It's back to basics as the Huskers get ready to play their final game of the year, a December 30th match up with the Arizona Wildcats in the 2009 Holiday Bowl. The offense has been under heavy scrutiny, because it continues to be considered the weak link of the team. Junior quarterback Zac Lee talked about the offense after practice today and what the team is doing to try and get better.

We'll do whatever it takes to win

By quarterback standards, the last five games haven't been exactly prolific. Nebraska's success has been squarely built on a sturdy and opportunistic defense, a decent running game and a passing game that simply doesn't hurt the team. Starting QB Zac Lee says he'll take it. No, it's not a QB's dream as far as numbers, but wins are wins, and that is all that matters to him.

A true team

From an offensive standpoint, this Husker team has lately been known more for grit than glitz. That's fine with junior quarterback, Zac Lee, who had to show as much as he has had to all year with some of the shots he took against Kansas State. That's fine with him. He's fine with tough wins, ugly wins or any other kind. Just so long as they are wins. That's what this is all about.

Learning from the mistakes

When things are going good you sometimes might not find out as much about yourself as you would if they weren't going so hot. Jr quarterback Zac Lee said he found out some things about himself this last weekend. He talked about that during today's P.C. as well as the splinter..errr, the break...ummm..the thing he's got going on with his thumb, and how it will hamper him this week, if at all.

No road butterflies for Lee

From the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium to the hostility that is nationally renown in Blacksburg, for his first start on the road as a Husker QB you'd think there would be a little nervousness for Zac Lee. But whether it's from his impressive stats already this season or just from the head coach, Lee says that butterflies aren't an issue. it's just the next game on the schedule.

FAU PC Audio/Video - Zac Lee

The weight of the world on your shoulders. That's what quarterbacks usually have, and for junior Zac Lee it's no different. Yes, he's got a potentially stellar defense, but with so many new and inexperienced players on offense, including him, it's going to be a growing process for everyone. He said he's ready, he's been waiting and he can't wait for the game. He wants to show what he can do.

Intensity, competition amping up

From the outside looking in, junior Zac Lee is the incumbent, and he's not trying to win the starting spot, but cement it during the course of Fall Camp. Lee, of course, doesn't look at it that way, and he talked about the progression through Fall Camp, not just of himself, but of other quarterbacks, receivers and the team.

Fall Camp Video - Zac Lee

Being the man is a good thing. But when you know that it's still a job to lose or win, admitting that you are the man could be translated differently. Quarterback Zac Lee knows this, and while he realizes that he's ahead of the pack, the best mentality to take right now is like it's a job you still have to go out there and take.

And listen to senior wide receiver Menelik Holt talk about his own progress, the progress of the wide receiving corps as a whole and who is the toughest guy in the secondary to go against.

The Next Step

There are a host of questions that Jr. quarterback Zac Lee will have to answer. But for him none of those go with the assumption that he's the guy. As far as he's concerned he's not, but this Spring is a way for him to try and make a statement that he will be. Following practice today Lee talked at length about now, how he looks at the competition and what goals he has for the future.
