Rockies Notes: Pomeranz in the rotation

Drew Pomeranz is finally in the Colorado Rockies rotation and he's on the hill Friday night. No pitcher to start a game for Colorado this season has an adjusted-ERA (ERA+) better than 91 beside Pomeranz, who has a 127 ERA+ in six big league starts. The Rockies have needed him all along, but now it appears that he's ready.

Desperate Rockies go to 4-man Rotation

Rockies Manager Jim Tracy decided to shake things up before Tuesday's game in Philadelphia announcing that the club will be moving forward with an unconventional four man rotation. A puzzling move made purely out of desperation became even more confounding when Tracy explained his thinking.

Pomeranz, Bauer tie 1-1 in Pitching Duel

A record crowd of 12,528 at Salt River Fields saw the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks play to a 1-1 tie in ten innings Saturday. As Rockies Manager Jim Tracy said after the game, "The pitchers are way ahead of the hitters." They certainly were as neither team scored off the oppositions starter and both teams notched a single run in the 4th inning.

A Fresh Start for Rockies Young Arms

It didn't take Bill James to figure that the Rockies needed better pitching last season. General Manager Dan O'Dowd said after the Jorge De La Rosa injury and before the trade deadline that he wanted to acquire pitchers with club control beyond the 2011 season. He did that when he added LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Alex White from the Indians in August as well as RHP Tyler Chatwood in the offseason.

September Call-Ups To Watch

Sometimes September call-ups make an impact on a pennant race. In other cases they are simply brought up to allow them to get a taste of the Show. In either case, it has been an impressive group of names that have made their way onto big league rosters this September. And at least one of those names will have his chance to impact game action into October. We take a look at five call-ups to watch.

Fowler Finds Stroke For Rox

It was less than a week ago that center fielder Dexter Fowler broke a string of 382 at-bats since his last home run. That drought seems unfathomable considering Fowler has hit four home runs in his past six games.

Trade Analysis: Jimenez Deal A Perplexing One

It's difficult to fault an organization for trying to win in their current season. But, it isn't always the right course of action. For the Cleveland Indians, dealing their top two pitching prospects for a pitcher trending in the wrong direction may prove costly in their rebuilding process. And, while Colorado dealing away their young ace is also perplexing, they may have sold just in time.

Pomeranz Impressive In Arizona

Drew Pomeranz showed Wednesday why the Indians made him their first draft pick (No. 5) overall in June. The left-hander struck out seven over three hitless innings in a fall instructional league outing against a team of Los Angeles Dodgers prospects. The Indians' squad of prospects lost, 5-2. Though Pomeranz worked behind in the count a lot, he threw hard and consistently put away batters.
