Indians Add Five To 40-Man Roster

Right-hander Josh Judy and four other minor-leaguers were added to the Cleveland Indians' 40-man roster on Friday. Infielder Jared Goedert, lefty Nick Hagadone and right-handers Corey Kluber and Zach McAllister also were added -- thereby protecting them all from being selected in the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The Indians hope a number of others in the minor-league organization slip past that process.

Zach McAllister and two relievers pitched Columbus to a 4-0 win over the Durham Bulls as the Clippers took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Governor's Cup. Columbus can clinch the Triple-A International League championship with one more win after sweeping two games at home. The Clippers got 20 hits and rolled to an 18-5 victory in the opener, then won with stellar pitching at Huntington Park.

An Embarrassment Of Riches

Nearly everyone realizes that the Yankees' near trade for Cliff Lee to a starting pitching staff that already had 46 wins entering Friday night's contest with the Mariners is just an embarrassment of riches. What most don't realize, however, is that even losing three good to superb prospects wouldn't have hurt their farm system depth too much and that is the part that is just obscene.

McAllister's Hard Work Paying Off

Zach McAllister has arguably enjoyed the best season of any starting pitcher in the New York Yankees minor league organization. His hard work with the Trenton Thunder has earned him a promotion to Scranton Wilkes-Barre for the playoffs, which start on Wednesday.

Considering Zach McAllister posted a 1-3 record and a 10.80 ERA in his last five games with the Staten Island Yankees in 2007, and with opposing batters hitting .353 against him during that stretch, not many could have predicted he would have the breakout year he had this past season - well, McAllister says he could see it coming.

Fast forward a year later and not only has the former third round pick erased any concerns over his late season drop-off last year, he is poised to finish this season equally as strong, thanks in large part to maintaining consistency.

McAllister Turning Things Around

Zach McAllister had his 2007 season end in the worst possible way as his secondary pitches abandoned him en route to a 1-3 record and a 10.80 ERA over his last five starts in Staten Island. However, going 6-3 with a 2.45 ERA with Charleston this season before earning a promotion to Tampa, where he has more than held his own in the early going, he has certainly turned things around.
