DawgmanRadio - Arizona State

TEMPE, ARIZ. - Chris Fetters and Kim Grinolds of Dawgman.com were on hand Saturday night to see the good, the bad and the downright ugly in Arizona State's 24-17 win over Washington at Sun Devil Stadium. There were a lot of questions that came out of the Huskies' play and playcalling, and the Dawgman.com guys talked about some of the possible answers.

Huskies seeing Red on Defense

SEATTLE - The numbers aren't pretty. When looking at the statistics for Washington's defense in 2009, there's one thought that keeps getting recycled; they look an awful lot like 2008's defensive numbers. But that team was 0-12 and the 2009 Huskies are 3-3 and looking for more wins. How can that be?

Polk and Fogerson are UW's 'Bread and Butter'

Steve Sarkisian is quite comfortable using a small army of running backs during the course of a season. It first came into vogue with the famous 'Thunder and Lightning' combination of Reggie Bush and LenDale White. Since that nickname is taken, I'm suggesting another one for Chris Polk and Johri Fogerson - 'Bread and Butter'.

Huskies say goodbye to the Willingham Era

Note to the University of Washington football team: Welcome to the 24-hour rule. It's been a long time since you were able to take the day to enjoy a win - Sunday would have been 666 days from UW's convincing 37-23 triumph over California. Steve Sarkisian made sure that string fell apart in short order, picking up his first career win in only his second start as a head coach.

Dawg Blog - Idaho

We're back at it, and the Washington Huskies' next opponent is the Idaho Vandals. The Huskies haven't lost to the Vandals in over a century, and have never lost to them at Husky Stadium - but the Huskies have never faced UI riding a 15-game losing streak either, so this week holds intrigue on a number of fronts. The two mix it up at Husky Stadium Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Sarkisian Yearns for Respect

In hearing coach Steve Sarkisian's opening comments, he's very happy that it's finally game week, especially given the fact that he's naturally an impatient person. "It's football season," he said. "That's why we're here and it's what we do. That's the mentality for us. It's been a long time coming, a lot of blood, sweat and tears for everybody.

It's game week! Finally, after weeks of fall camp and all that goes with it, the LSU Tigers are on the front burner. What surprises will first year Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have for their visitors? One thing is for sure, there's plenty to talk about with the list of starters released Monday.

Defense takes the day

It was two head football coaches ago that I last covered a UW practice, so a lot has changed since I was last in Husky Stadium as a member of the media. Here are some of my observations from Saturday's practice, the last official practice of fall camp. The first thing that popped into my head was the fast pace. Wow do these guys ever get things done in a hurry.

Dawgman Insider Blog: August 2009, PART TWO

With the days ticking ever closer to Washington's September 5th clash with LSU, the more Steve Sarkisian is thinking about the game. More specifically, how the mechanics of the game are going to go. With that in mind, as well as the thought that he wants his team as fresh as possible going into their battle with the Bayou Bengals, it appears that full pads are done for fall camp.

Shaw and offense shine in scrimmage

It was a glorious afternoon for Washington's second scrimmage of fall camp. Temperatures hovered right around 70 degrees and over 2,000 fans came out to see the Purple beat the White 24-14. The offense had one of it's best days, but that doesn't mean the defense didn't have it's moments as well and head coach Steve Sarkisian said he's happy with the progress of the team no far...

Addressing Concerns After One Week

Earlier this summer I wrote about some areas of concern going into this coming season. I thought the tempo and pace of practice not only would help condition the team but that it would also slow the game down for them once it started. We will find that out soon enough, but more importantly - how are they addressing some of the more obvious areas of concern?

Five Areas of Concern as New Era Approaches

With all the good that has been coming out of Montlake, we are constantly being reminded of the terrible hangover from the previous system. Not one article or prognostication fails to mention the record or how awful the team was. I guess that is just the reality of losing, but I know the Huskies easily could’ve won four or five games had they not lost Jake Locker.

SEATTLE - Winning is being brought back to Washington, and after watching 11 of their 15 practices this spring I personally think it will happen this coming season. This team is going to win games. That number will probably be determined by staying injury-free and getting all their 2009 signees admitted so they can help right away.

Locker impresses during Spring Game

SEATTLE - This is one game where the score isn't necessarily indicative of what took place. The Purple team, led by Jake Locker, defeated the White team 33-0 behind Locker's 16-18 passing day, and the 95-yards rushing of redshirt freshman running back Chris Polk. The game took part at Husky Stadium in front of an estimated crowd of roughly 10,000 fans, former players and family.
