Romar in the Age of Transfers

SEATTLE - Lorenzo Romar has developed a special sense for distinguishing transferitis - the desire to leave one school for another. In fact, he has honed a nearly tactile response so acutely it acts much like a BS detector; only it works both ways. He can sniff out the cases that can become infectious diseases, as well as those that turn out to be nothing more than homesickness in disguise.

Huskies gear up for first scrimmage

SEATTLE - No offense to Rebecca Stevenson, but Steve Sarkisian might be doing his own meteorology from now on. Washington's Head Football Coach took a look at Thursday's forecast and decided to hold UW's fifth spring practice inside. Then he started looking outside. Apparently word is that he'll be carrying a barometer in his back pocket for the rest of spring.

Sarkisian pleased with first day in pads

SEATTLE - Like rabid dogs wearing muzzles, the UW football team couldn't wait to get out to Husky Stadium and hit somebody during the first full day of pads in preparation for their first big scrimmage day on Saturday. There was plenty of that going on, as well as the requisite pushing, shoving and tearing of helmets off heads - just ask Tyrone Duncan and Ryan Tolar,

Quantum leaps can be made

SEATTLE - Sometimes it takes a whole year to make that quantum transformation from player to star. Steve Sarkisian said Thursday it's possible for a transformation to occur literally from one practice to the next. And while he has to watch the film to make sure, he saw some players step up that he didn't see on Tuesday.

Speaking to Steve Sarkisian after Tuesday's practice, he had the look of a man who was in his comfort zone. With all his coaches back, their offensive, defensive and special teams systems in place, as well as his starting quarterback in tow, Sarkisian led a two hour-plus workout amid blustery, gray skies and everything looked like it went off without a hitch, at least until the very end.
