No excuses: We need to do our job

55 yards rushing is 55 yards rushing. Even for pass happy teams that isn't good. But for a team like Nebraska, which prides itself on being physical, that's problematic. You could make excuses as to why things happened against Virginia Tech the way they did, but for offensive lineman Jaivorio Burkes, excuses don't matter. He says they just need to do a better job.

Debut done

Game one is in the books and for only the third true freshman to start on the offensive line for Nebraska since 1972, Jaivorio Burkes took to his role in stride. It would be something to ask him to do it at home, but his first game came on the road and against the Texas Longhorns. The game ended up as a loss, but it was a big plus for Burkes as he now knows what he needs to work on to get better.

Jaivorio Burkes meets the media

Offensive linemen aren't really expected to do a lot their first year at Nebraska. Between the system and the complex techniques, it's considered improbable for any freshman to overcome. That's an adjustment which freshman Jaivorio Burkes admits will be tough. But he's planning on giving it his best try.
