MadFriars’ Farm Report: May 11

A pair of doubleheaders, one turned out really well and the other didn’t. In San Antonio Cody Decker and Nate Freiman are now the league leaders in home runs for the Texas League. Although the Storm lost Corey Spangenberg, he is now hitting over .303 after starting off the month at .240. Matt Clark is really starting to heat up for the T-Padres after a rough April.

Comparing Michael Pineda and Mat Latos

The San Diego Padres made a drastic change to the face of their team over the weekend by trading troubled but talented 24-year-old right-hander Mat Latos to the Cincinnati Reds for a package of prospects that they hope will help their team -- specifically the light-hitting offense -- in the future. Should the Mariners go the same route with their young right-hander, Michael Pineda?

Reds, Padres Exchange Young Talent

It's a rare occurrence in baseball when we see a trade that almost exclusively involves very young players. On Saturday, however, the Padres and Reds got together and exchanged some outstanding young talents. The star of the deal is clearly Mat Latos, who is headed to the Reds, but San Diego received an impressive package of young players as well.

Winter Meetings Aren't "Fielder or Bust"

Many fans are looking at this offseason as a 'Prince Fielder or Bust' type campaign. But as Jack Zduriencik and the Mariners front office has shown, there are other ways to acquire talent and improve the ball club. As Baseball's Winter Meetings get underway in Dallas today, it may very well be trades that build the future of the Seattle Mariners.
