FIRST-HALF GRADES FOR NAVY OFFENSE

Navy is 2-4 and even though their offense is ahead of several statistical categories as compared to this time last season, overall the unit has been inconsistent and in crunch time, they haven’t answered the bell – especially in the red zone. Their experienced offensive line needs to lead the way in the second half if this team has any chance of producing a winning season. Time for the grades.

Report Card: Navy vs. Notre Dame

Navy played their most complete game of the year dominating Notre Dame in a surprisingly easy 35-17 win at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. Navy opened the game with a terrific defensive goal line stand to stuff the Irish on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. Navy then drove 99 yards for a touchdown. The Mids proceeded to score touchdowns on five of their first six possessions.

It was quite the spring season in Annapolis. Under the direction of second year head coach Ken Niumatalolo, the Midshipmen completed the four week rite of spring during the annual Blue and old game on April 17th. Recently I had a chance to sit down with the Navy coach, and got his assessment on how the spring campaign went for his team.

Navy Offense Coming Together

With an NCAA record fourth consecutive rushing title under their belts from 2008, one might say that the Navy Midshipmen don’t rebuild on offense, but rather reload. Yet to simplify Navy’s continued success in the triple option is to overlook the trials and tribulations of each spring season, where coaches and players alike work meticulously to stay ahead of rivals like Army and Air Force.
