Hargrave Beats Marshall Sub-Varsity, 20-0

HUNTINGTON - Marshall's sub-Varsity featured some surprising players playing for the Herd in a Sunday afternoon meeting with Hargrave Military Academy at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium on October 5. But the Tigers had a surprise of their own in new quarterback A.J. Blue (Gastonia, N.C.) in a 20-0 win over the Herd's scout team and back-ups who are not being red-shirted.

Marshall Falls To Cincinnati, 33-10

Marshall had a huge jump in talent and ability in opposing players when the Herd left the Mid-American Conference and moved to Conference USA in 2005. It appears the Herd would not be ready for a jump to the Big East at this point in the Mark Snyder era as MU was again dominated by Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday night, 33-10. The Herd falls to 3-3, while UC improves to 4-1 on the year.

Marshall Beats Southern Miss, 34-27

Two weeks. Two "Hail Mary" passes by Marshall opponents. Both broken up by Herd defensive backs to seal wins against Conference USA teams, and this time against a team MU had never defeated in three seasons in C-USA. Marshall ran, passed, kicked and defended Southern Miss better than ever before, resulting in a 34-27 win, where the Golden Eagles had won nine straight C-USA openers at "The Rock."

Herd Holds On For 17-16 Win Over Memphis

All Marshall fans held their breath, as did a few hundred Tiger fans, as Memphis back-up quarterback Will Hudgens heaved a 70-yard rainbow towards the end zone with no time on the clock. Receiver Steve Black had his heels on the goal line as the ball approached but senior Marshall safety C.J. Spillman knocked the pass away to save the day, and save the win, for the Herd, 17-16 over the Tigers.

Notes, Stats From August 9 Marshall Workout

Marshall put the first day of pads under its belts with some good hitting and no major injuries. While the coaches are trying to strike a balance between needed hitting and not hitting to injury, the highlight of Saturday's practice was a crack-back block by receiver Bryant Milligan that sprung Darius Passmore for a touchdown during team. Terrell Edwards continued to run well, like he did spring.
