SPRING DAY 6: Beavs go full contact

CORVALLIS--Mike Riley opened it up Friday, allowing the Beavs their first full-contact scrimmaging of the spring. Among the storylines – an impressive d-line and pass rush, an unhappy o-line coach and a hard-to-tackle H-Back. Off the field, there was no change in the status of DE Matt LaGrone and with today the last day for him to register for classes at OSU, his departure becomes reality.

SPRING BALL DAY 1: Beavs lose another starter

CORVALLIS–The first OSU spring practice hadn't begun and yet the Beavs had already lost another starter.
SPRING PREVIEW: Defensive line

DESPITE THE RETURNING STARTERS coming in on the defensive line this spring, there remains plenty of intrigue up front -- the coaches moved several players during the winter months, there are depth questions and they're coming off a year in which sacks were few and far between. Here's how it all breaks down..

Beaver D authors another prime storyline

CORVALLIS -- On Saturday morning, preparing for their matchup with UW, Oregon State was just preparing as normal, slotted in the middle of the Pac-10 standings. A few hours later, after Stanford finished off USC with ease, and after OSU plowed over Washington, a door is seemingly swinging wide open for OSU and the Beaver Nation.

DEFENSIVE MATCHUP: Beavs vs. Huskies

THE BEAVER DEFENSE comes into Saturday’s home finale against Washington having played their best game of the season. Oregon State held Cal to just 39 ground yards and brought loads of pressure. Washington, however, was stout against the run as well last week, allowing UCLA just 84 yards. The UW pass defense, however, was and is a different story. Here are how the defensive matchups shape up..

Beaver D helps roll up No. 23 Cal

YOU KNEW IT WAS going to be the Beavers' night watching the kickoff to open the second half. In OSU's 31-14 victory over No. 23 Cal, a win that made OSU bowl eligible, 285-pound DT Latu Moala opened that third quarter bobbing and weaving his way through Cal's kickoff stoppers for 21 yards, out to the 43 yard line. And how fitting that it was a defensive lineman making the play.

Not a bad thing when the next opponent is the No. 6 ranked team in all the land. But at OSU under Mike Riley, the Beavers have enjoyed considerable success following a bye.
IT WAS THE fast start Oregon State was looking for against ASU. Defensive pressure by the line, the offense stretching the field a bit, well those were found too. An upset road Pac-10 win is what the Beavs needed, and that the defense led the way made it that much better.

FALL CAMP DAY 11: Extras Notebook

CORVALLIS -- The defense wasn't immune to Sean Canfield on Friday, the senior lefty had a field day early on in 7-on-7 skelly drills. And the question on Brandon Hardin coming in wasn't his raw speed, he has a truckload of it. Instead, how his raw athletic ability translated into the corner position was the matter at hand. Friday may have provided much of the answer..
