Thursday Workout Report

It was as nice a day as you could want in Seattle Thursday, as 81 Washington Huskies showed up for another competitive workout session. This one lasted anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours, depending on who you were and what position you played. Overall, the work rate was high and there was plenty of enthusiasm to go around.

Dawgman Insider Blog: August 2009, PART TWO

With the days ticking ever closer to Washington's September 5th clash with LSU, the more Steve Sarkisian is thinking about the game. More specifically, how the mechanics of the game are going to go. With that in mind, as well as the thought that he wants his team as fresh as possible going into their battle with the Bayou Bengals, it appears that full pads are done for fall camp.

SEATTLE - Winning is being brought back to Washington, and after watching 11 of their 15 practices this spring I personally think it will happen this coming season. This team is going to win games. That number will probably be determined by staying injury-free and getting all their 2009 signees admitted so they can help right away.

SEATTLE - This is one game where the score isn't necessarily indicative of what took place. The Purple team, led by Jake Locker, defeated the White team 33-0 behind Locker's 16-18 passing day, and the 95-yards rushing of redshirt freshman running back Chris Polk. The game took part at Husky Stadium in front of an estimated crowd of roughly 10,000 fans, former players and family.

First Day in Full Pads for Huskies

SEATTLE - It wasn't 'Tell the Truth Monday' on Montlake. It was 'Competition Monday', according to UW Head Coach Steve Sarkisian, and since it was the Huskies' first practice in full pads, the cracking began early and often. If it was 'Tell the Truth Monday', the truth would have been that Monday wasn't all that much different than Saturday. Or Thursday. Or even a week ago Tuesday.

Spring Practices Promise to be Competitive

A group entirely made up of new coaches should make this the most competitive spring practice in years at Washington. There are no prejudices carried over, so it means renewed competition at just about every position on the team. With the possible exception of about four or five spots, every spot should be pretty much up for grabs.

Well, it's finally come - the Awful Cup. I mean, the Apple Cup. Both Washington and Washington State has combined to build up the kind of notoriety that has ESPN bringing two writers to cover the AC. But unfortunately everyone is interested for all the wrong reasons. Together, the Huskies and Cougars have been shut out of the Pac-10 regular season - until Saturday. Both deserve to lose.
