Small Ball Surprise Wins in 13

The recent past has taught Stanford fans that nothing good comes of affairs with UC Davis. The worm turned, however, Tuesday night in the home finale at Sunken Diamond that lasted more than four hours. Sean Ratliff, the Cardinal's home run leader who had left the park earlier in the evening, stunned the Aggies with a two-out RBI drag bunt to dramatically win in the bottom of the 13th inning.

Off the Schneid

The season of Pac-10 perfect futility is over. After losing their first six conference series of 2007, and seven straight going back to the end of the 2006 season, Stanford Baseball on Sunday took the rubber game against Washington with a 10-7 victory. Six Stanford batters had multiple-hit games, with plenty of power at the plate. Starter Erik Davis gave up just one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.

Eighth Is Enough

After letting Friday's game slip away, Stanford bounced back Saturday at Sunken Diamond with an 8-6 win over Washington that tied the series. The Huskies had the big stick on Saturday with four home runs, but Stanford strung together a big five-run eighth inning that broke up a 3-3 tie. Five Cardinal batters rapped multiple hits, while a sophomore notched his first save of the season.

Baseball Bounces Back in Reno

Stanford Baseball did three novel things Tuesday: score throughout a game, pitch strong out of the bullpen and avoid imploding in the field. The result was a 9-4 victory at Nevada, ending the Cardinal's six-game losing skid. Two players had perfect days at the plate, and a third nudged his average briefly over .400. Junior David Stringer closed with two-hit shutout pitching the final five innings.

Sloppy Defense Dooms Stanford

Defensive struggles continue to plague the Cardinal. On Friday, Stanford committed three late-inning errors resulting in six unearned runs as USC mustered an 11-8 series-opening victory at Sunken Diamond. Offensively, Stanford rapped out 14 hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome the miscues in the field. Here is a complete game recap.

Baseball Preview: USC

The Cardinal have struggled mightily this season against ranked opponents with just one victory in six games. They'll get another shot at a top-flight club this weekend when the 20th ranked USC Trojans come to town for a three-game series. Stanford has won eight of their last nine overall while USC has claimed four straight series victories. Here is a preview of the non-conference tilt.

One Run Enough In Shutout Of Cal

Stanford appears to have found their ace. Freshman Jeffrey Inman, inserted into the top position of the starting rotation for this weekend, fired 7 2/3 dominant innings Friday night against the California Golden Bears. Inman allowed just three hits and struck out nine while David Stringer recorded the final outs for another save. The 1-0 win marked Stanford's sixth victory in a row.

Bullpen Delivers In Win Over USF

The Stanford pitching staff has, for the most part, struggled on the road this early season. With a long stretch of home games now underway, the time is now for the Cardinal hurlers to get back on the right track. Tuesday night saw relievers Austin Yount and David Stringer fire eight scoreless innings to end the ballgame as Stanford posted a 4-1 victory over the USF Dons.
