Unlikely starter says he's ready; WR leaves

PULLMAN -- Brian Danaher, the Pride of Colfax, is about to become one of those rare walk ons who climbs to center stage. With the unexpected news that senior guard Dan Rowlands’ shoulder woes are so serious as to be career ending, the 6-3, 273-pound Danaher becomes a lock for the starting line up. Meanwhile, the Cougar receiving corps took yet another hit, with the announcement of a transfer.

Gary Rogers' Diary: Week Five

PULLMAN--Hey Cougfans, I’m back and talking about the Washington State receivers this week. And there are some defensive backs who have been standing out this summer that I should mention as well. I will also be doing a radio interview with KJR on Friday afternoon -- it's planned for about 1:30 p.m. -- so listen in.

Spring Ball Day 3: Full Contact

PULLMAN--The Cougs donned full pads for the first time on Thursday and for the most part, the offense ruled the day. Gary Rogers looked very much at home in the new, fast-paced offense and Daniel Blackledge turned in the catch of the young spring. Meanwhile, on defense, Markus Dawes looks hell bent on making up for lost time -- watching him do battle with Brandon Gibson has been a treat.

Mattingly on torrid pace

PULLMAN -- Statistics, other than the one signifying the final score, sometimes don't mean a thing. Still, it's hard not to notice Cougar linebacker Andy Mattingly's line. The Spokane native, who has started the last two games for Washington State, has 7 sacks, (5 solo) on the year, good for No. 17 in the nation. Monday at practice, the 6-4, 235 pounder was again front and center.

MORNING SESSION: Cougs back on the move

PULLMAN -- Washington State players were back on the move at Tuesday's first practice after a day off on Monday. Coach Bill Doba spoke openly after the session about, among other things, an interesting change of pace. Action on the field included a receiving veteran turning in the catch of the day and one of the starting 'backers crashing the backfield so fast he almost could have taken the snap.

SCRIMMAGE 1: Offense rules the day

PULLMAN—It was wall-to-wall sunshine but even the skies had a hard time on Friday matching the picture perfect performances of QBs Alex Brink and Gary Rogers in the Cougs' first spring scrimmage. There were solid hits and head-turning feats on defense but the offense ruled the day, scoring five touchdowns. Despite the shining stat line, Bill Doba is thankful the 2007 season is still a ways away.
