Tall Order Against San Jose State

Senior left tackle BILLY BATES (6-5.5, 280) was honored this week with the Vandal Pride Award for his performance last Saturday against New Mexico State, when Idaho's senior-laden offensive line paved the way for 271-yards rushing in the Idaho victory. Bates and his fellow linemen face an enormous task this week as San Jose State rolls into Moscow with one of the best defensive lines in the WAC.

PHOTO GALLERY: Idaho vs Fresno State

Saturday's game at Fresno State was a disappointing loss, but in the process the Vandals scored their most points of the season as they mounted a furious second half comeback before falling to the Bulldogs 45-32 in Fresno, California. True freshman wide receiver PRESTON DAVIS led a three touchdown second half effort by the Vandals, as QB Nathan Enderle threw for 237 yards, three TDs and no picks.

PHOTO GALLERY: The Vandal Offensive Line

As is often the case, the unit that takes the longest to rebuild is the offensive line. Seven years ago Idaho had three future NFL linemen on the starting unit (Jake Scott and Rick DeMulling drafted by Colts, plus free agent Patrick Venzke). It has taken years to rebuild the depth chart, but with mountainous guard MIKE IUPATI among its emerging leaders, the Vandal line is getting back to form.
