Basketball-Football Doubleheader For Herd

It's a rare doubleheader for Thundering Herd fans on Saturday, November 29. Well, maybe not so rare, as the Marshall men's and women's basketball teams also have a doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. for the ladies (vs. UT-Arlington) and 7:30 p.m. for the gentlemen (against ETSU). But first, Saturday, ODU will face Donnie Jones' team at 11:30 a.m., followed by football vs. TU at 3:30 p.m.

Rice "Snaps, Crackles &" Tops Marshall, 35-10

Marshall's defense made the first half plays, and Mark Cann led the Herd to a touchdown on a 99-yard, eight minute drive to send Rice and the Herd to the locker room tied 7-7 at half. But Rice's Chase Clement and Jarrett Dillard hooked up for the 49th and 50th touchdown of their career together and the Herd fell, 35-10, and will finish with a fifth-straight non-winning season with a seventh loss.

Knights Fall On Herd, 30-14

Right from the start, MU was struggling. A new Marco outfit was met with an uneven response, then Kase Whitehead let a punt slip through his hands on the first series the Herd had and UCF took control of a game that Marshall never really threatened in. In the first loss at Homecoming since 1992, the Herd falls for the fourth consecutive time to UCF, 30-14, in a game where the Herd lacked offense.

Hargrave Beats Marshall Sub-Varsity, 20-0

HUNTINGTON - Marshall's sub-Varsity featured some surprising players playing for the Herd in a Sunday afternoon meeting with Hargrave Military Academy at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium on October 5. But the Tigers had a surprise of their own in new quarterback A.J. Blue (Gastonia, N.C.) in a 20-0 win over the Herd's scout team and back-ups who are not being red-shirted.

Herd Works Wednesday Morning, Kicks P.M.

One down, one to go, was the theme of Wednesday morning when the Thundering Herd finished the next-to-last morning workout with some highlights on both sides of the ball. Defensively, you would have not know that, however, as Defensive Coordinator Rick Minter gave his white-shirted charges about an ear-full for 15 minutes after Head Coach Mark Snyder dismissed the team.

Offense Served "Big Mac Attack" Wed. Morn.

Coach Mark Snyder often tells the media that practice is scripted to allow either the offense or the defense to win a practice by the plays put in or the "tools" players are allowed to use. On Wednesday morning, however, it looked like except for one trick play long touchdown, the defense was the unit who had skipped breakfast and ate up the offense all morning in the second two-a-day workday.
