Sterk gives Wulff high marks on discipline

JIM STERK says he likes the direction Paul Wulff has taken with team discipline. Roster changes and suspensions since Wulff arrived have gotten loads of play in the media. While there have been exceptions, the vast majority of player scrapes with the law however during Wulff’s stay have been relatively minor, such as driving with a suspended license. And the team has made progress academically.

POST-SPRING EXAM: Corner questions

PULLMAN -- Washington State has spent the past few years rebuilding the cornerback position. The Cougars entered the spring with eight corners on the depth chart -- seven of them underclassmen. There were bright spots over the 15 practices of the spring session, but one wonders if the position still poses more questions than answers.

SPRING PREVIEW: CB battle looms, says Sears

EXPERIENCE AND YOUTH are set to collide this spring at corner out on the Palouse. Four experienced cornerbacks will do battle with three rising redshirt freshmen -- and WSU assistant coach Jody Sears says he can't wait. The Cougars' CBs coach and co-defensive coordinator says there was both competition and "buy in" last spring, but nothing like what is set to begin in less than a week.

Good & bad on display in 24-10 WSU finale

WASHINGTON STATE WAS a 29 point underdog on the road at Hawaii but the Cougar defense, for the most part, didn't play like it. Oh, the Cougs made their share of mistakes, and on both sides of the ball. They had a lot of young guys out there, too. And WSU's starting quarterback went down at the end of the first half. But Washington State also had their chances in this one.

Cougars finding brief calm on the Palouse?

PULLMAN -- It was so quiet at Washington State's practice Thursday morning, you could hear a fumble drop. WSU's hard-driving coaching staff, concerned about mounting injuries, backed off the troops for the first time in fall camp. The result was a shorter, less intense and quieter workout than usual. Still, Devin Frischknecht, Tyrone Justin and Kevin Frank all made a little noise of their own.
