MORE PROOF THAT recruiting is more art than science. This past football season, there were 27 players on NFL active rosters at year’s end who hailed from high schools in the state of Washington, according to MaxPreps.com. Of those 27, a whopping 30 percent of them – eight total -- didn’t play their college ball in a major conference.

WASHINGTON STATE athletes lay claim to a long list of noteworthy accomplishments at the collegiate and pro levels, but one of the Cougars’ most lasting achievements is in dire jeopardy. For the first time since 1948, it appears quite likely that no former WSU baseball players will see action in the Major Leagues this year. USC (1939) and Oklahoma (1945) are the only schools with longer streaks.

Cougar streak hinges on Hendrickson

A HEAD-TURNING crimson streak is on the line and the only guy in position to keep it going is out with back problems. All is not lost, though, Cougar fans. While this season -- so far -- is the first since 1947 that a Washington State alum hasn’t played in the Major Leagues, the Baltimore Sun’s Orioles beat writer tells Cougfan.com there’s no reason to panic.

WSU in NIT rekindles thoughts of two greats

WASHINGTON STATE, gearing up for a first-round National Invitation Tournament contest with Long Beach State on Wednesday, is no stranger to the NIT. The Cougars have played in the 32-team field four previous times. Their best showing came in 1995, when two of the all-time greats in program history put on a show that led the Cougars to the tourney’s quarterfinals.
