Humble but Hungry

His story has been told so many times, there is really no point in rehashing it. But it's one of those stories you love to hear. From rags to riches, so to speak. Following a Pro Day which he felt was another successful venture following a fine showing at the NFL Combine, Dillard talked about the road to here. It wasn't always an easy one, and he said he had lots of help. But he made it.

I wouldn't change a thing

The season certainly didn't start out well for Dillard, the senior linebacker not even playing in the first two games. But it's been one heck of a season since. If not for Suh, there could be some argument as to who the biggest impact player on defense was this season. But there would be no arguing that Dillard's name would be in the conversation. For him, he wouldn't change this year a bit.

Phil the WILL

Just getting on the field would be good enough for most. You can say that for senior linebacker Phillip Dillard. But the move to weakside certainly doesn't disappoint the veteran LB. From learning the schemes and just getting in the games, Dillard says it's all good with the move to the outside.

No doghouse for Dillard

He may have had to work on some things, but linebacker Phillip Dillard wasn't in the doghouse with the coaches. He talked after practice today about the transformation of sorts he's made since Spring. But it wasn't a doghouse with the coaches. He maintains that throughout out it all they were fine. And now Phillip said he's holding up his end of the deal.

As a first-year coach, the most you can ever ask of your team is for them to do what they have been taught and to the best of their ability - and for the entire game. Husker Head Coach Bo Pelini says they haven't that yet, and even now going into the last regular season game, that's what he wants to see.

With Nebraska getting their sixth win, getting into a bowl isn't the issue. Which bowl they get into, is. But that's not the situation for Kansas State. They are sitting at four wins, two shy of the mark needed, and now they know their current Head Coach is gone. As Nebraska goes on the road they know they are going to see a team in the Wildcats, which literally has nothing to lose.

Building for the future

It's all about the future. When building a program, you can look at what is going on now, but as a first-year coach at a program, what you try to think about is the long road ahead. Head Coach Bo Pelini recognizes that, which has been a point of emphasis throughout the entire year.
