Tough Season Ends with Loss at CU

The game was a complete disappointment. Nebraska hit the Buffs early, totaling 393 yards in total offense in the first half, along with 35 points. That should have been enough to beat just about anyone. But as the theme has continued this year, frustrations outweighed and undid the big red. Coach Callahan talked about that, but as you can imagine, much of the questions were regarding his future.

Do or die time for the Huskers

It's potentially the last game of the season. That's just what the Cornhuskers are trying to avoid. It's a do-or-die mentality which is not only appropriate, but seems to be reflective of some uncertain times. Head Coach Bill Callahan talked about the upcoming game with the Buffs and how they are trying to push everything aside so this isn't the last game of the year.

Big 12 Teleconference Audio - Bill Callahan

There are a lot of questions about how Nebraska can go from giving up 70 to scoring 70 in the span of the week. There are so many questions about this team. It's not the offense, though. Of that Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan is certain. His confidence in his system is supreme.

Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's not

After last week, you had to figure that you had seen just about everything imaginable for this Nebraska team. Well, maybe now you can. 73 points, over 700 yards in total offense and a total team effort which even saw Nebraska return a kick for a touchdown. Not a bad day overall, and for this head coach in particular, maybe there's more to it than that. But Bill Callahan probably wouldn't agree.

No giving up now

Coming off a fifth straight loss, optimism is probably not at its highest level you can imagine. And the questions pertain to a lot more than just who the team plays next. That's what Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan had to deal with as it's more about his future and that of the team rather than the upcoming game with the Wildcats.

All the confidence in world in Ganz

Nobody likes the idea of losing their starting QB. They are a starter for a reason, after all. But if Joe Ganz, now going into his fourth season at Nebraska, doesn't have the knowledge of this system, than nobody else probably does either. His actual reps have been few, but as the head coach said today, there's no lack of confidence in what he can do for this team.

Call it a bad dream everyone is trying to awake from. Call it a streak nobody wants to participate in. It's another game and another devastating loss for the Huskers. For even the head coach, this one is hard to explain, but it's even harder to comprehend. But the head coach tried to do just that after the 36-14 loss today.

Yes, there's a game this weekend. Hard to believe, I know. Of course, it wouldn't be a Husker practice this week wtihout a little drama. And Callahan responded to the drama created by a certain new book.

It wasn't like yesterday didn't have enough action to slate even the greediest appetite. Bill Callahan had his press conference, where he talked about potentially losing his job. Then there was Tom Osborne's press conference, where he talked about accepting one. Now that T.O. is in, though, the questions once again were posed to Bill Callahan today: How safe is your job right now?

Current situation poses major distraction

With the firing of Athletic Director Steve Pederson, the ties that bind the current coaches of the football team, have become somewhat strained. A struggling football team only makes the situation worse. So many questions loom for this football team, but more for the head man himself. Today, he tried to answer some of those questions about the team and even his own future.

Progress not going according to plan

The loss of four starters on the D-line is going to hurt any team. You could consider that five linemen if you include former Husker linebacker Stewart Bradley, which Head Coach Bill Callahan does. That's a lot to replace and if they don't perform, it trickles down to the rest of the team. The line has progressed, but through six games this year, not as much as the head coach would have liked.

Points a premium for Callahan

Don't call it a shootout. That's what the Nebraska/Missouri game is being labeled right now, both with solid offenses, statistically. That's what many expect. Don't tell that to Head Coach Bill Callahan though. Regardless of the atmosphere expected from a late game like this and being on the road, he's approaching the Tigers like anyone else. He just wants to score more points than the other guy.

A "strange" game

In the bizarro world of college football where Oklahoma and Texas lose on the same day, go figure that Nebraska would seemingly do everything to lose in the first half and actually go into halftime with the lead. The momentum built and Nebraska took over, and after last week's narrow escape, it may be "just" a win, but it was a good win for the team.
