Ludwick to Undergo Surgery

The Reds re-vamped their lineup over the season by acquiring Shin-Soo Choo to lead off and re-signing Ryan Ludwick to clean up releasing Brandon Phillips to move into the number two slot ahead of Joey Votto. Just two games into the season that plan has been put on hold from Ludwick’s injury and it appears Phillips will once again get pulled back into the fourth slot.

Ludwick Re-Signs with Reds

The Reds came into the offseason with a to-do list as they prepare to defend their NL Central crown in 2013. In their first move they retained Jonathan Broxton to move into a closer role and free Aroldis Chapman to move into the rotation. Stories Saturday confirmed that Ryan Ludwick will return to left field after heavy rumors that both sides were close to a two-year deal.

Game 5 Loss Ends Reds Season

It was winner-take-all in the NLDS Game Five at Great American Ball Park Thursday night. Neither team crossed the plate until the fifth inning when the Giant's offense erupted for six runs, capped off by a grand slam by Buster Posey. Reds fans hopes for a deep October run were quashed when their team lost three consecutive home games for the first time this season.

Ludwick Solidifying Reds Outfield

Earlier this season a lackluster offense kept manager Dusty Baker shuffling his lineup. Ryan Ludwick was hitting only .201 in mid June before going on a tear to raise his average over .260 and increasing his home run total to a team second-best 19. He drove in four last night as the Reds continue to roll wihout their best hitter, Joey Votto.

Votto-less Red Win 9th in a Row

Earlier this month the Reds position in first place was threatened when slugger Joey Votto went on the DL for knee surgery. Last night's win at Colorado extended a winning streak to nine games before they go for a third consecutive series sweep Sunday. Over that time their runs/game have increased 25% as multiple players in the lineup have stepped up to pick up the slack from his absence.
