Not So Fast!

A report Thursday indicated that contrary to previous opinion, Aroldis Chapman would resume his role as closer in 2013 instead of moving to the rotation. That triggered a reaction from the Reds who denied that a final decision had been made. Within the past week Chapman made a comment indicating that he would prefer to continue protecting ninth inning leads.

Broxton Will Remain a Red

The Cincinnati pitching staff had an excellent 2012 and tied for the lowest ERA in the NL despite playing in one of the more hitter-friendly venues. A solid starting rotation was a huge part of that and the Reds' signing of Jonathan Broxton hints that they are looking to improve it even more in 2013 by converting closer Aroldis Chapman into a starter.

Reds Acquire Broxton

There was much speculation that the Reds would try to improve their lineup by going after a leadoff hitter before the trade deadline. Instead they added closer Jonathan Broxton to the bullpen with the lowest ERA in the majors. The Reds bullpen depth is quite remarkable considering the amount of injuries its suffered since before this season. Now they've added an experienced right-hander.

Milwaukee starter Mike Burns and three relievers struck out 11.
