Didi Passing AAA Test

Competition is a good thing and for a while now many have speculated the Reds will have one at shortstop between rookie Zach Cozart and prospects Didi Gregorius and Billy Hamilton. Thus far everything is still on track to do just that. The two minor leaguers are both hitting above .300 since their promotions earlier this month.

Gregorius Drives in Four

Last night Didi Gregorius led the way offensively with three hits including a home run and four RBI. The athletic shortstop is a consensus top-10 prospect in the Reds system. Coming into the season there were concerns with his plate discipline and consistency with the glove. Thus far in 2012 he's shown improvement in both areas.

Shortstops are Starting Tall for the Reds

While Zach Cozart embarks on his rookie season as a Reds starter, Cincinnati has two other highly rated shortstops in their organization. Didi Gregorius is now hitting .400 at AA Pensacola while Billy Hamilton is considered by many the highest rated prospect still in their developmental system.

Pensacola Gets Walkoff Walk

Coming into the season Villarreal was not on any lists of top Reds prospects, but after three starts he looks like he’s going to make a case to change that. He has yet to give up more than one run in a game this season and his ERA is now 1.53. He struck out 17 in 17 2/3 IP while only allowing 3 BB. His WHIP right now is 0.962.
