The outfielder spent four years playing ball at Cal State Dominguez Hills, where he hit his way to a record 54-game hitting streak, before playing in the Appalachian League for the Bluefield Blue Jays. There he hit .327 to give him the league batting title and a spot in the Appy All-Star game.
