We really need a win

Even before the season began, anyone could see that the road trip to Austin, Texas was going to be a big one. Nowadays, though, it's big for a lot different reasons. Rather than to cement Nebraska as a conference contender, this game could be just to get back some much needed confidence. For a team just trying to find itself, this could be the biggest game of the year.

A hard one to deal with

It wasn't his best game. Senior quarterback Sam Keller would tell you that. And it came in the midst of what was yet another game where the offense had to play catch up, after the team starting falling behind. Typical to the trend over the last few weeks, that didn't work out and everything else fell apart after that. The question is, can Keller can company rebound?

Getting back to loving football again

It's no fun losing a game. That goes without saying. But sometimes there isn't much fun when things appear to be going well. Maybe that was the imputus behind Nebraska's collapse down in Columbia on Saturday. Then again, maybe not. As it is, senior quarterback Sam Keller says that this is going to get back to loving the game, no matter what he has to do to help it happen.

A shootout works for Keller

Coming from the Pac 10, senior quarterback Sam Keller knows a little about shootouts. He's been in his share, not the least of which is the recent game with Ball State. This definitely looks like a shootout on paper, and that suits Keller just fine if it is. But as he stated in today's press conference, sometimes things don't always go how you think they will.

Offense capitalizes even with few chances

Last week it was the defense which wasn't great. This weekend you could say the same for the offense,at least early, Nebraska getting one first down the entire first quarter. They got it rolling before the end of the half, and Sam Keller finished, completing 18 of his 28 passes for 219 yards and two scores. Not bad when it's the other team which has the ball for a whopping 102 plays for the game.

Keller puts own performance in perspective

Aside from an interception which you could say was as much a great play by the defense as it was a bad play by Nebraska's starting QB, senior Sam Keller was stellar. He threw the ball 37 times, completing 29 of them, totaling 438 yards and tossing three passes for TDs. It's all good, but when you do all that and win by just one point, things need to get fixed. But a win is indeed a win.

USC Post Game Video - Sam Keller

When the running game doesn't work, the play-action is all but useless. That means everyone knows you are going to throw. And when that "everyone" happens to be USC, you are in a load of trouble. Senior QB Sam Keller still managed to put up a gaudy 389 yards passing, throwing two TDs. The two interceptions will haunt him, but he said this team isn't throwing it in.

Post Game Audio - Sam Keller

Unless your performance is perfect as a quarterback, there are some throws you'd probably like to have back. You can bet Sam Keller has a couple of his own. But the untimely turnovers didn't take away from the good things he did, including the half-ending two-minute drive to retake the lead. It was an ugly win, but a good win for him and the team.

Wake Forest P.C. Video - Sam Keller

It wasn't exactly textbook, but as they say, a win is a win. The good thing about the first game, though, is that you have an idea of what you should do better in the second game. That's what senior QB Sam Keller took from this game, plus a lot more confidence in those big boys who are protecting him up front.

Nevada Post Game with Sam Keller

14-25 for 193 yards, a pick and a touchdown, probably wasn't anyone anticipated in the first game of the Sam Keller era. But I doubt anyone will complain with the 52-10 win. After all, it's been almost two years since Keller played in an actual game, and following this one, he talked about what it's like to be back.

It's been a long road for Sam Keller, stemming from his transfer from Arizona State, through the time where he, a former starter for a major Division 1-A team, had to participate on the scout team for a season. All that effort has paid off, though, as Keller was named Nebraksa's starter for Nevada. Keller talked about being naned the starter after practice today.

Sam Keller probably had enough pressure on him when he decided to transfer to Arizona State. Here he was fighting to get into the league, and he was switching to a new school. He wants to start. Most expect him to start and no doubt many will be disappointed if he doesn't. That's what Keller wants to do, but he, perhaps more than anyone else, realizes the battle ahead.
