Adam Ottavino gives the Rockies a lift

The Colorado Rockies topped the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Sunday earning a series split and a 5-2 record on the homestand. Rookie Drew Pomeranz started and pitched well enough allowing two runs and only one earned run despite walking four batters in four innings. The bullpen came up big shutting down the Marlins after a 4th inning Jordan Pacheco home run gave the Rockies the lead.

Rockies Notes: 8/13

Though it might be hard to tell, the Rockies have been playing better of late. Yes, folks, it's gotten to the point where a 4-7 start this month qualifies as improvement. It's truly been a no good very bad year for Colorado, but at least they'll be rewarded with the number two pick in the draft next year. On to the notes!

Rockies Notes: Guthrie and Arenado

Today's Rockies Notes are on Jeremy Guthrie and Nolan Arenado. Guthrie has been better of late in the rotation for the Rockies while Arenado hasn't quite progressed as most expected at Double-A this year.

Who will debut first: Arenado or Harper?

The Washington Nationals surprised some when the club optioned outfielder Bryce Harper, 19, to minor league camp. It's in the club's best interest to keep Harper in the minor leagues longer to keep his service time down, but sending him down this early shows that they believe he isn't ready yet. Rockies Nolan Arenado, 20, is also likely to get the call to the show this year, but who first?

Rockies Options at 3B: Blake or Bust

There could be unexpected competition at third base where veteran Casey Blake, signed in the offseason to be the primary player at the position, experienced nagging neck soreness that sidelined him after he began the spring going 0-for-9 with four strikeouts. Do the Rockies have enough to get by without him?

Future is bright for Rockies

This winter, the Colorado Rockies will either acquire a legitimate solution at second base or they won't. The club will either trade young players for a front of the rotation starting pitcher or they won't. Regardless of what the Rockies do this winter and what their club ultimately looks like on Opening Day in 2012, the future will be bright in Colorado because of the next wave of stars.
