Pondering the Cougar RBs in 2013

THE ROLES OF the running back seem to be changing in both the college and NFL games -- for the first since the 1960s, not a single running back was taken in the first round of the NFL Draft this year. If the Air Raid offense hits its stride in 2013, some Cougar running back is going to post 60-plus receptions this season. That's more than the leading Coug receiver had all of last year.

5 Cougs who have surprised most this spring

IN SOME CASES they used a productive winter to vault into the mix. For others, an unexpected opportunity at playing time has been taken to full advantage. Spring ball at Washington State has produced a number pleasant surprises on both sides of the ball. But these five really caught our eye.

4 Cougar juniors who must impress this spring

THEY ARE THIRD- OR fourth-year juniors, meaning they have maturity and perspective, but a narrowing window in which to make a mark before the cap and gown go on. For the four whom Cougfan.com has included on this list, the spring season is more than simple competition and preparation. For a variety of reasons, it's prime time in determining the direction of the rest of their college careers.

Countdown to Spring: Cougars RB Preview

PULLMAN -- With a deeper crop of running backs and presumably a more productive offensive line, is this the year the Cougar ground game blossoms and takes some pressure off of the Air Raid passing attack? We take a look at all that and more…

There were shark tales, too. Meanwhile, the quarterback picture looked less muddled, as Jeff Tuel received a majority of the snaps behind center.
RUNNING BACK: WSU Fall Camp Preview

PULLMAN – It might be easy given the high-powered Air Raid passing offense to overlook the WSU running backs headed into fall camp. But that would be a mistake. For starters, the Cougars have depth in the backfield plus an innovative RBs coach entering his first year at WSU. A disciple of the Pistol offense, Jim Mastro’s group of Cougar running backs could indeed emerge early and often in 2012.
