Not So Fast!

A report Thursday indicated that contrary to previous opinion, Aroldis Chapman would resume his role as closer in 2013 instead of moving to the rotation. That triggered a reaction from the Reds who denied that a final decision had been made. Within the past week Chapman made a comment indicating that he would prefer to continue protecting ninth inning leads.

The Conversion

As spring training nears the Reds will once again look to move Aroldis Chapman into their rotation. He started a few spring training games last season but injuries in the bullpen eventually kept him a reliever. He turned into a dominant closer and now Cincinnati wants to see him stretched out over more innings.

Broxton Will Remain a Red

The Cincinnati pitching staff had an excellent 2012 and tied for the lowest ERA in the NL despite playing in one of the more hitter-friendly venues. A solid starting rotation was a huge part of that and the Reds' signing of Jonathan Broxton hints that they are looking to improve it even more in 2013 by converting closer Aroldis Chapman into a starter.

Latos Sharp in Post Season Tune-Up

Coming into the final day of the season the Reds are still in the hunt for the top best record in the league and the top postseason seed that comes with it thanks to a 3-1 win at St. Louis behind Mat Latos. Their 97-54 record is the highest win total since 1976. If they win their finale they will still need a National loss against Philadelphia to overcome the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Unhittable

The Cincinnati Bullpen has been a pleasant surprise after suffering multiple injuries. Aroldis Chapman still has a zero ERA and Logan Ondrusek did not allow a run until Thursday. Sean Marshall set up the Reds win on Sunday and they're hoping he'll regain the form he had in that role while with the Cubs. Add in Jose Arredondo and Reds fans may hearken back to the days of the Nasty Boys.

Baseball's Top 25 Pitching Prospects

Twenty-two teams missed out on the playoffs in 2009, forcing them to look ahead to the 2010 season before the postseason even began. Only one team, the New York Yankees, won the World Series. And they are now looking to repeat.
