Joyer sibling rivalry in full swing

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The matchup was always a possibility when the brothers picked their schools, but it never seemed likely. Offensive guard Kamran Joyer began his collegiate career at Louisville while younger brother Hunter decided to take the reigns of the fullback position at Florida. A game between the Big East and Southeastern Conference schools wasn’t likely, but it will end the 2012 season.

Joyer Prepared for New Offense

When Hunter Joyer signed with Florida, he never imagined a situation where he would line up at wide receiver. First-year offensive coordinator Brent Pease’s scheme changed that. Joyer won’t be split out when the ball is snapped, but in the first six days of practice, the Gators have already installed packages that feature Joyer and other running backs split wide before shifting to the backfield.

Joyer Likes Physical Play

Getting physical has been the name of the game for Will Muschamp during the spring and the time leading up to spring training. Sophomore fullback Hunter Joyer has no problem with that aspect of the game and showed that in his sterling freshman year in 2011. Joyer broke down the offense for the media following the spring game Saturday and we have him here in this video.

Gator commit Hunter Joyer said he feels privileged to know he will wear an Orange and Blue jersey at the next level. The 5-11, 250-pound fullback from Tampa Catholic High School brings a unique mixture of strength, speed and size to UF’s offense. Florida will capitalize on Joyer’s strength and use him primarily as a blocking back and a dynamic addition to special teams play.

Florida Sends a Message to Running Backs

Things are going to be quite different in Gainesville with the Florida offense in 2010. “You know who” is gone and the running game will have to be picked up by others, as will the passing game that will no doubt need to carry some of the burden left by Tim Tebow's departure. Thursday, the Gators shouted that message when they landed arguably the nation's best fullback. Backs should be smiling.
