Stoneburner Finally Healthy

MOOSIC, PA – Graham Stoneburner knows he can be successful on the mound. It’s just a matter of staying healthy to prove it. Stoneburner’s 2012 season was marred by two trips to the disabled list because of groin injuries. He was, however, able to come back towards the end of the year, remain healthy and get back in a groove, things he’s carried over to this season.

Stoneburner Still Has A Good Feeling

Right-hander Graham Stoneburner has been besieged by injuries over the past two years, including a nerve injury in his neck in 2011 and a nagging groin injury last year that limited him to just 45 1/3 innings with the Double-A Trenton Thunder. Neither of them were arm injuries, however, and that gives him a good feeling about bouncing back in 2013.

Stoneburner Battling Back

TRENTON, NJ - The word “injury” has fallen in the same sentence as “Graham Stoneburner” far too often in recent years. First there was the fractured vertebra that forced the right-handed pitcher to miss his senior high school season. A year later, a torn ACL cost him his freshman year at Clemson. Last season, he missed three months with a pinched neck nerve.

Stoneburner Back On Track

Trenton right-hander Graham Stoneburner came into Spring Training this season feeling good and fully healed from a neck injury that sidelined him for most of the 2011 season. But the 24-year-old hit another bump in the road in his first outing of 2012 when he tweaked his groin on a broken-bat soft line drive back at the mound — an injury that placed him the DL for the last month.

Stoneburner's Injury Not Serious

TRENTON, NJ - Graham Stoneburner pitched well on Friday — a scoreless four innings. So why if he was pitching such a successful game, was Stoneburner removed after just 66 pitches? Plain and simply, he is injured again. On the positive note, it is only a minor groin injury and has nothing to do with the major neck injury that caused him to miss so much time last season.

Scouting Prospect #32: Graham Stoneburner

The New York Yankees selected right-handed pitcher Graham Stoneburner out of Clemson University in the 14th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He seemed to be on a big league collision course after a tremendous debut season in 2010 but a nagging neck injury not only limited his appearances last but kept his effectiveness in check all season long.

Stoneburner Learned Valuable Lesson

During a baseball prospect’s time in the minor leagues, learning how to throw, catch and hit aren’t all of what needs to be experienced and learned before reaching the majors. In fact, part of what makes a great baseball player is their ability to bounce back after obtaining a game-stopping injury. For Graham Stoneburner, his lesson was learned this year with the Trenton Thunder.
