Home Away From Home

While Texas A&M may have a shorter trip to Houston, Northwestern’s stay in Houston for the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas will be a homecoming for a number of Wildcats. NU has established strong recruiting ties in the Houston-area, building plenty of excitement for the team’s visit in town.

First in line

Northwestern’s 2010 recruiting class addresses just about every position on the field. But it's what NU has done on the defensive line – snatching up a trio of lineman from three very different parts of the country, including native son Chance Carter (left) – that stands out the most. Purple Reign takes a closer look at the upcoming crop of defensive lineman.

Cardinal Win

PR got in touch with Stanford’s Scout page this summer to ask about the Cardinal’s then-Top 5 recruiting class. While the discussion was about Stanford’s success, it ultimately shed light on something that happened weeks later: Will Hampton’s de-commitment from Stanford and ensuing commitment to NU. See how the strategy that spurred the Cardinal’s success may have kept the door open for Hampton.

Big non-conference win

In its recruitment of three-star defensive lineman Will Hampton, Northwestern was up against some usual recruiting-trail foes – Notre Dame and Stanford among them. But with yesterday's commitment to Northwestern, Hampton showed that NU can go into Big 12 Country and nab a recruit who had his share of traditional and up-and-coming Big 12 options.

Change of Plans

The Nebraska coaching staff is planning a second, and kind of a jump start of the recruiting, junior day this Friday. There are some names that haven’t been to see Nebraska yet that were on tap to see it this weekend. One name was this Texas DT who is currently committed to a PAC 10 school. Will he be making it in this weekend or not?

Right now, it's true

The Nebraska coaching staff has put together another, later Junior Day that is getting some very good response. There is definitely a need to try and get some defensive lineman in this class and in two weeks, Nebraska will host a very good one from Texas. This DT is also a commitment to a PAC 10 school making it even more interesting to see how this plays out.

Still considering options

When Will Hampton pulled the trigger on a commitment for Stanford, the only other offer he had was from Northwestern. Since committing he has picked up another 14 offers. Hampton says that he will continue to evaluate his decision and the offers that keep coming in. One of the teams that will get a look is Nebraska.

Texas DT Hampton commits to Card

Since receiving his first college scholarship offer from Stanford about a month ago, defensive tackle Will Hampton turned into a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. With legitimate size (6’3, 275), strength (345-pound bench press), and speed (4.9 forty), the defensive tackle received five more offers in the last month, in addition to interest from a host of other schools…
