Miles Osei Embraces Multiple Positions

They say, "Necessity is the mother of invention." That certainly holds true for Fighting Illini football player Miles Osei. Listed #3 on the quarterback depth chart last fall, he became an indispensable man this spring. With depth issues at running back and receiver, Osei found himself learning multiple positions and performing well at each one.

Osei Continues Development As QB Backup

The Fighting Illini football team had only two scholarship quarterbacks available for spring ball this year. It provided both many repetitions to refine their games, but there was no relief when needed. Since both quarterbacks are young, the extra reps helped. That is especially true for Miles Osei, who played only three downs as a freshman.

Difficult Backup Role No Problem For Osei

There's something paradoxical about being a second string quarterback. On the one hand, you are popular with fans. They may never have seen you play, but you are in demand if the starter falters. The drawback is you must prepare as if you are a starter but can never guarantee playing time. Miles Osei went through that this year.

Osei Gets First Nod As Scheelhaase Backup

The Fighting Illini football team has utilized seven true freshmen after the first two games. Among them is Miles Osei, the Mt. Prospect quarterback who made a quick transition to the college game. Osei originally committed to Northern Illinois, the Illini's Saturday opponent. He may now see playing time against them.

Can Illini Afford Luxury Of Redshirting Osei?

With quarterback being a position without experience, even a rookie has a chance to compete for playing time. Freshman Miles Osei spent the summer learning the offense and has been making excellent progress in fall drills. He played well enough in the final Camp Rantoul scrimmage he is being considered for playing time this season.

Illinois Gets New Quarterback Commit

When the Fighting Illini decided to make Eddie McGee's move to receiver permanent, they realized they were down to three quarterbacks on the football roster. Fortunately, they knew about a tremendous quarterback at Mt. Prospect named Miles Osei who fit nicely into their offensive plans. Osei committed to Illinois and will join the qb derby in the fall.
