Onyeali not satisfied with strong start

Through the first four games, the ASU defense has been nothing short of dominating. Allowing 12.8 points a game, recording 14 sacks, and topping several Pac-12 statistical categories, the Sun Devils have been a force to be reckoned with. Junior Onyeali, one of the players leading the defense’s resurgence, believes that this defense has the capabilities to keep improving every game.

After being suspended for the entire off-season, linebacker Junior Onyeali is back in the fold for the Sun Devils. The lessons learned during that hiatus are ones the upperclassman feels have truly benefit him.

Onyeali returns to fuel defense

The Arizona State Sun Devils have been plagued by injuries, yet week by week they're slowly beginning to return to form with the infusion of returning players as they prepare for the stretch run in the 2011 season. Last Saturday they welcomed back sophomore defensive end Junior Onyeali, which should only make this already formidable Sun Devil defense more intimidating for opponents.

Onyeali standing tall for ASU’s defense

In the game of football it can be said, size does matter but there is one Sun Devil that would disagree with that notion, defensive lineman Junior Onyeali. At 5’11, the sophomore is the smallest of his position group but Onyeali doesn’t see his size as a disadvantage.

Onyeali focused after breakout performance

Amongst many positives from the 42-0 rout of Washington State, true freshman Junior Onyeali burst onto the scene with his first signature game. The stocky 5-11 233 defensive end recorded three sacks and was in the Cougars’ backfield for what seemed to be the entire sixty minutes.

Onyeali stepping up big

Even in the major high school ranks, let alone in BCS conference teams, 5-11 defensive ends are few and far in between. Not only is Nduka Onyeali one of those uncommon players, but his performance in fall camp has certainly been higher than his stature. Consequently, he is one of at least four true freshmen who will suit up for ASU this weekend for their season opener against Portland State.

Onyeali measures up to his position

“It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.” The famous Mark Twain quote from a few centuries ago, has repeatedly stood the test of time in sports. 6-1 245 Nduka Onyeali, ASU's top defensive high school signee in the 2010 class is just one more player exemplifying that saying.

With his mind solely on this weekend's state championship game, Onyeali says he won’t make a decision until later in December. “It’ll be by the end of the month,” Onyeali said. “I’ll probably take a week or two after our final game to decide.” Scout.com's No. 51 defensive end has narrowed his choices down to Minnesota, Arizona State, TCU and Syracuse. He’s already officially visited all four.
