Key Defensive Position Battles

The loss of Jake Locker stole all the post-season UW headlines, but missing Mason Foster and Victor Aiyewa might be just as meaningful when trying to figure out the Huskies' 2011 fortunes. So what are the top-5 position battles on defense?

Spring Game a Success

SEATTLE - The good news is that the Dawgs beat the Huskies in Washington's Spring Game, 31-14. The bad news is that the Dawgs beat the Huskies in Washington's Spring Game, 31-14. As it always is, playing yourself can reveal strengths, as well as weaknesses, in equal measure.

Saturday Scrimmage Report

Saturday's practice was arguably the longest since Steve Sarkisian has been at UW, lasting at least 150 minutes. He said he wanted to get 100 scrimmage plays in, and it sounds like he did just that. Sarkisian said that there were over 250 coaches that came out for their coaches clinic, a great turnout. Many of them stayed to watch practice, but not very many people were left by the end of it.

Lagafuaina following the Ta'amu Plan

The first time I saw Lawrence Lagafuaina play football, it was just him and his 'Aiea teammates, having fun during a two-hand touch scrimmage during the May Evaluation Period two years ago. It was a beautiful sunset in Honolulu that evening, but Lagafuaina stole the show. He was a bowling ball of a man, every bit the six feet and 350 pounds he measured in at.

One of the problems of playing 18 and 19-year old freshmen is that often times they break down physically, especially in the shoulders. It’s usually because they haven’t developed the tendon strength necessary to withstand the big hits that come with stepping up to the college level.

2011 Recruiting Rundown

Now that Signing Day is done, Dawgman has taken the time to sort through the rubble to see where how Washington Huskies finished out the recruiting process. Did they finish out the way they wanted to? Did they address all their needs? Did they get a solid mix of stars and team players? Was their haul effectively balanced between offense and defense?

Looking beyond the Holiday Bowl, Part II

Washington won their last three games in a row, and not only earned a trip to the Holiday Bowl, but they got a huge measure of revenge in beating Nebraska. That is a great reward not only for a team that worked so hard to overcome a three-game losing streak, but also for a program that has not been to the post season in nearly a decade.

Dawg Blog - USC

After a much-needed BYE week, Washington (1-2) gets back on the saddle, so to speak, and back into familiar territory - at least for Head Coach Steve Sarkisian. This will be Sarkisian's first return to Troy since leaving USC nearly two years ago. After the Huskies' 16-13 upset of the then No.3 Trojans in Seattle last year, does USC have something special cooking for Sark and company?

Dawg Blog - Nebraska

It's week three, and for some reason week three always brings about a tough opponent for Washington of late. USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State...it's been a virtual bloodbath at home. This weekend is no different, as the No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers come calling. Can the Huskies pull out a little last-second magic, as they did last year against the No. 3-ranked Trojans? Or will it a lopsided affair?
