Young stays disciplined against Wildcats

It only took 1:38 off the clock for the worst-case scenario to take place. Florida center Patric Young picked up an early foul, and a frontcourt without much depth was tested right away. When Young has picked up a quick foul in recent games, Florida coach Billy Donovan has shown a quick hook. On Tuesday, he was patient. That patience was rewarded with one of the best games of Young’s career.

Young pushing through fatigue

There were times when Patric Young struggled to stay on the floor last season. His high-energy style of play and struggles to push through fatigue forced Young to average 26.5 minutes per game in 2011-12. Head coach Billy Donovan recently called Young to his office to compare his minutes with those of drafted big men, proving that the junior center needs to stay on the court more this year.

Marquette was a battle in itself but Pat Young knows it certainly doesn't stop there. He says Louisville is a team that earned a right to be in the Elite 8 and he expects a hard fought game. Young also discusses the win over Marquette, Florida ties with coach Pitino and what it takes to get through trials and tribulations with your team. He says Florida is peaking at the right time.

Young Can Fuel Florida's Postseason

Patric Young’s ankle has done plenty of damage this year. When it was keeping his minutes limited in games, it hurt the Gators in the paint with no strong defensive presence to play opposing big men. With the ankle now completely healed, it still managed to do damage mentally. The mental part of the game was the hardest for Young to overcome, but he showed signs of life Sunday against Kentucky.

Florida head coach Billy Donovan credits disciplined practice and grittiness for his team’s 61-52 win Tuesday night to Alabama on the road. Florida recovered from a two game losing streak to grab the 20th win of the season and Donovan’s 14th in a row with at least 20 wins. His team persevered through a rough first half to come out on top in the contest.

Starting Doesn't Matter to Young

Patric Young doesn’t care either way. The ankle injury he suffered in early January took him out of the starting lineup, but the sophomore center doesn’t mind that it has stayed that way since. Florida head coach Billy Donovan has brought Young off the bench over the last four games because of the energy boost he brings. They’ll reevaluate before Thursday night when Florida hosts South Carolina.

Donovan Expects Young to Play Against LSU

The lack of big men forced Billy Donovan to get creative in the early part of the season. He might be forced to do it more often in the future. Florida center Patric Young is dealing with an ankle injury that allowed him to play 13 minutes at South Carolina on Saturday. Young has improved with rest this week since the Gators don't play until Saturday, but the injury is still concerning Donovan.

After the best game of his career, Patric Young leads the No. 12 ranked Gators into his hometown of Jacksonville on Friday night to face Rider (1-8). The challenge will come in forgetting what he did against Arizona, when the sophomore posted 25 points and ten rebounds. The Gators need Young to focus on energy and defense unless Rider’s defense dictates him to score more.
