Dunbar emerging at receiver this spring

Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease has seen a pattern at wide receiver during the first week of spring practice. Junior receiver Quinton Dunbar was starting to take the next step. Pease pulled out his phone and sent a text message to Dunbar on Wednesday night to point out that the coaching staff noticed his improvement. The next step is taking it to the field consistently.

Dunbar: Too Talented Not to Win

Sophomore receiver Quinton Dunbar was adamant Thursday that the Florida Gators of 2011 had too much talent on the field not to produce at a higher level. Dunbar believes that a new attitude has started to enter in the ranks and the 2012 version of the Florida Gators will be a lot different team. Communication is key and he says these Gators have plenty.

Dunbar Finds Comfort with Weis at Helm

Quinton Dunbar didn’t need to be sold on offensive coordinator Charlie Weis. From the moment he was announced as the hire, Dunbar started thinking about how Weis could help him get better. He brought instant credibility to a Florida offense that sputtered through the 2010 season. Days away from debuting the new offense, Dunbar is thankful for the impact Weis has made on him.

Dunbar Ready to see the Field

Quinton Dunbar drew rave reviews from the practice field last fall. Lining up mostly for the scout team as he took a redshirt in 2010, veteran and rookie players all praised the impact Dunbar made as the team prepared for each game. There were plenty of highlight reel catches, as the Florida defense couldn’t guard the scout team receiver. However, he never saw the field on Saturdays.

Dunbar Confident and Excited

All the other players on the squad talk about him as the next break out guy. He also likes to talk a good game. The south Florida swagger of Quinton Dunbar is evidently infectious with his teammates and actually with the media who he caught off guard a few times and made laugh. Dunbar is putting behind a year where he redshirted and knows he can make a difference in 2011.

Dunbar Ready to be an Impact Player

Even the Florida coaching staff is impressed with the rise up the depth chart Quinton Dunbar made during the spring. The reports out of practice last season spoke of a player who made an impact on the scout team, but Dunbar was still near the bottom of the depth chart that head coach Will Muschamp released before the spring. It didn’t last for long.

Dunbar Maturing and Working Hard

There was a lot of back room talk a year ago about how well Quinton Dunbar was doing in practice and that he was actually one of the best receivers on campus. Yet, he never saw the field during the season. The accolades for Dunbar are coming full force this spring and he will be the first to tell you that hard work and some maturity on his part are the reasons things are going much better.

Sometimes it is the smallest things or the least likely things that may stand out for any prospect on an official visit. In the case of Quinton Dunbar, it may just be the food that will keep him coming back to Gainesville. The Gator commitment from Miami's Booker T. Washington took an official visit to Gainesville this weekend and was impressed by the cuisine more than anything.
