Confidence Emerging in All Facets

200 yards, shmoo hundred yards… at the end of the day, if some Gamecock wanted to brag about keeping the Gator offense under 200 yards for the game a simple gesture and point to the scoreboard was all that was needed. Florida broke a modern day record 44 points scored with less than 200 yards offense Saturday and finished with confidence, swagger, and everyone knowing this is a tough team.

Burton got the ball rolling in 2nd half

If there was play that opened up the floodgates for Florida’s 37 points of offense on Saturday it was the well-drawn up and executed 80 yard run by then ‘wildcat’ quarterback Trey Burton. Burton had already run for one touchdown earlier in the game, but that one set the tone for the Gators’ big finish.

After an injury early on in last week’s game against FAU, Trey Burton was forced to watch from the sidelines for the first time in his football career. But it would take more than just a helmet to the ribs to keep him from playing this week. At the end of the second quarter, Burton found the endzone for a five-yard score for his 13th TD of his career leading his team to a 39-0 victory over UAB.

Burton Adjusting to Fullback

Trey Burton knew that a new offense brought adjustments. He just didn’t know how hard they would be. Switching from quarterback in the spread to fullback in a pro-style offense brought unique challenges. Burton had to learn how to become a consistent blocker while also learning how to take a hand off. They sound easy, but after spending his entire career at quarterback, it was a new challenge.

Burton Adding to his Repertoire

Everyone saw with their own eyes a year ago what trey Burton can do with the ball in his hands. The new Florida offense should allow him to still get the ball, but he will be asked to do more than carry it and do the things he did a year ago. He will be the primary lead blocker as a fullback, technically called the F. This presents many possibilities for the offense, himself, and his teammates.

Top Gator Stories of 2010 -- Part 2

Now that the holidays are behind us, the bowl season has played out and all eyes are on the second half of this school year, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the year that was. Florida certainly had an interesting time of it in calendar year 2010, which saw the end of a great Gator playing career early in the year and the end of a great coaching career at the end.

Burton committed to play quarterback for Meyer 18 months before signing his letter of intent and expected Meyer to be his coach during the quarterback’s college career. Instead of being frustrated, Burton sees it as part of the college game.

'Hammer Time' for Burton

We've heard about it for a couple of weeks now and on Saturday we got to see it with our own eyes. Trey Burton was rumored to play everywhere on offense and low and behold he did just that. He played some fullback, running back, tight end, quarterback, and even receiver. His stats weren't gaudy, but he played hard with a couple of nice plays in the win. Look for more as the season progresses.

Spring Evaluation: Quarterbacks Matured

The biggest question for the Florida Gators in the 2010 season national circles is of course the quarterback spot. Filling Tim Tebow's void at the position may be the biggest undertaking by a player in recent college football history. The staff and fans won't put pressure on John Brantley, but the pressure will be there. Brantley and freshman Trey Burton matured this spring and look promising.

Burton Ready to Take the Field at The Swamp

During quarterback Tim Tebow’s first season at Florida, he barely threw the ball as Chris Leak’s backup. The then-freshman served mainly as a running threat when he was on the field and excelled in short-yardage situations when he had to lower his shoulder for the tough couple yards. Incoming freshman Trey Burton could see a similar role in his first year on the Gators.
