Vandals battle early, fall to No.3 LSU 63-14

DESPITE BEING DOWN TO THE NO.3 LSU TIGERS AT HALFTIME BY A SLIM 28-14 MARGIN, the Vandals could not keep up in the second half as the Tigers rolled to a 63-14 victory. Idaho had its highlights, including an electrifying 94-yard interception return by safety GARY WALKER to start the second quarter, which led to a Blackman-to-LaGrone TD that cut LSU's lead to 14-7. But the Tigers were too much.

Three keys to Idaho success in 2011

FOR IDAHO TO RETURN TO BOWL ELIGIBILITY THIS FALL, a list of goals must be met, starting with each athlete meeting or exceeding expectations. But beyond that priority, there are three keys that are most frequently listed, including senior MICHAEL COSGROVE leading a more disruptive defensive line, improved productivity across the offensive line, and the play of first year starting QB Brian Reader.

Spring Depth Chart: The D-Line

THE VANDAL OFFENSIVE LINE HAS STOLEN THE HEADLINES THIS SPRING, but equally crucial will be how the Vandal defense recovers from its 2009 struggles. How much Idaho improves on the defensive side of the ball will depend in large part on how much they improve in the trenches. Among the team leaders, Idaho will have senior defensive end AARON LAVARIAS (6-3, 255) as a cornerstone to build around.

Vandals Win Opener, Down NMSU 21-6

The Vandals jumped out to an impressive 21-0 lead going into halftime at New Mexico State on Saturday, looking poised and prepared (including MAX KOMAR rolling over an Aggie defender for a TD) in the season opener for both schools. In the second half the Idaho offense stalled, but the Vandal defense forced a couple Aggie turnovers in a bend-but-don't-break approach, yielding just one touchdown.

'09 PREVIEW: Developing Run Stuffers

Aguably, the success of the 2009 season rests squarely on the shoulders of the Vandal defensive line this fall. Obviously, its a team game and all units will need to play well to register more wins. But this group must set the tone defensively. With preseason All-WAC 1st Team selection JONAH SATARAKA (6-2, 289) leading the charge at noseguard, the Vandals will focus on becoming a brick wall.
