Physically dominated

The Gators accepted head coach Will Muschamp’s challenge of getting tougher, but it didn’t look like it during Wednesday’s loss in the Sugar Bowl. That’s what stung the most as players walked around the locker room after the game. The Florida offensive line had inconsistent moments throughout the season, but junior guard Jon Halapio felt the team was dominated physically against the Cardinals.

Florida Sees Unfamiliar Finish

It is a statistic that has been beaten to death over the offseason. Will Muschamp made it a point on his summer booster speaking tour to tell the Gator fans that Florida was outscored 72-22 in the fourth quarter of SEC contests a year ago. He wasn’t proud of that number but was vowing o make a change. So far he is living up to his word.

Road to Atlanta Through Hard Work

With a few years behind him, Florida’s redshirt junior offensive lineman Jon Halapio has witnessed a great deal of success and failure at the University of Florida. Halapio’s experience allows him to evaluate the many changes that have taken place in Gainesville. Based on what he has seen during fall camp, Halapio is convinced that Florida’s offensive line will be significantly better this season.

Quarterback John Brantley should be back on the field this Saturday after facing a high ankle sprain injury that took him out of two and a half games this season.
Halapio Ready for SEC Challenge

The Florida offensive line is one of five units in the country that has played two games and hasn’t allowed a sack this season. It hasn’t come against the best competition, but for a line that comes into Saturday’s game with only 31 career starts, the season has started as well as the unit could’ve hoped for. Jon Halapio thinks it has a lot to do with his new position coach.

Halapio will Appeal for Redshirt

It's no secret that the University of Florida has a stable of offensive linemen that are just waiting to get on the field. Jon Halapio got an early chance this year to play as a true freshman only to have it end with an injury midway through the season. The injury will likely allow him to redshirt and still have four years to play. He plans on being even more prepared to get on the field in 2010.

It's All Slowing Down for Halapio

During his recruitment, we always heard that Jon Halapio was one of the more physical linemen in the class of 2009. The thought was always that he was the most physically ready lineman the Gators signed and that he had a chance of playing on opening day. Saturday it became reality. Halapio played in his first game in The Swamp as a true freshman and it was a great experience for the young man.

Video: Halapio Working Hard

It isn't always easy for talented freshmen to come into the University of Florida and blossom in their first year. Jon Halapio is an offensive guard that came in as physically mature as you will get for a true freshman, but he has found the going tough so far. He loves it anyway, and understands he will just have to work through it.

To say that Jon Halapio is itching to get started as a member of the Florida Gators football team is probably a bit of an understatement.
Things haven't been good at St. Petersburg (FL) Catholic. They were slapped with a three-year postseason ban by the FHSAA for recruiting violations in 2006, which resulted in a coaching change. But on Friday, there was a glimmer of joy after offensive guard Jon Halapio verbally committed to the Florida Gators.
