Team Getting Tougher, Stronger During Season

A year ago, the Florida football team was mired in mediocrity. A 6-6 regular season record was full of wins against teams they should have beaten without a doubt and losses to teams they should have lost to and a couple that were toss ups that the Gators came out on the wrong end of. An 11-1 mark showed marked improvement in 2012 and hard work was a lot to do with it. That work continues.

Offense cleaning up issues up front

The turnovers were the biggest factor in Florida’s only loss of the season a week ago, but another big was the blocking and protection up front. The offensive line takes the majority of the blame usually and even thought their were issues with blocking from most positions on the offense, the line needed to do much more. They know it and are working on it.

Video: Harrison Talks Win

The Florida Gators put a 44-11 beating on the Gamecocks in the Swamp Saturday and are now a perfect 7-0 this season. Florida center Jon Harrison says this team has been a strong second half team and attributes much of that to Jeff Dillman's off-season program. Harrison says last season was a wake-up call for Florida and it's good to bring the Gators program back to where it belongs.

Harrison talks offense, Tennessee and music

Saturday’s 20-17 victory over Texas A&M exposed plenty for Florida on the field. While starting quarterback Jeff Driskel propelled the Gators to a 2-0 record, the Aggies pummeled the sophomore with eight sacks. One of the offense’s own, Florida center Jon Harrison, tackled questions Tuesday, opening up about what’s going on his side of the ball as well as some surprising details about his past.

Harrison Sees Difference in Offensive Line

The Florida offensive line struggled during games and on the practice field throughout the 2011 season. That was the first sign of the issues. It’s not the case anymore. The offseason program under first-year strength and conditioning coach Jeff Dillman added strength and athleticism to an offensive line that needed both. Jonotthan Harrison believes the results are tough to miss at practice.

Harrison Part of Line Continuity

Florida head coach Will Muschamp decided he wanted to see more continuity in the offense for the Florida spring game this week and so the offense will be taking on the defense instead of splitting up teams. Part of the growth of this particular team will be on the offensive line as the experience level will be three times what it was a year ago.

Overhauled Line Played Physical

The Florida football team finished the Gator Bowl game with Ohio State with no offensive tackles available that were at the position at the start of the season. That was the storyline for this offense in 2011, injuries were everywhere. Florida moved Nick Alajajian and Kyle Koehne to the position during practices for the game. Instead of sulking, they played hard and out-physicaled the Buckeyes.

The '09 O-Line

Xavier Nixon coined the phrase "09 O-Line" to describe the group of offensive linemen that will take the field for Florida in 2011. It's a group that has been waiting in the wings behind the likes of Marcus Gilbert and the Pouncey Twins. Now, Jonotthan Harrison, Xavier Nixon, Ian Silberman and Jon Halapio have the chance to prove doubters wrong.

Harrison Becoming Center of Attention

Replacing one Pouncey is tough, but following two Pounceys at the center position is a very unenviable position for anyone. Sophomore Jonotthan Harrison may have to be that guy and that is without having played the position for seven years. Harrison is drawing praise from head coach Will Muschamp for his efforts and really likes the transition from playing guard and tackle a year ago.

Spring football in college allows the chance to see new players on your favorite college team. The Florida Gators will be presenting a lot of new looks and faces to the college football world in 2010 and a few new ones will get some work on the offensive line this year. It is a seasoned bunch that returns this spring, but a few injuries will allow some less experienced to get some work.
