Keys to success - Offense

Washington will have a new quarterback, but most of the rest of the offense returns intact and another year wiser. Here are five areas where they will need to succeed - and if they do, the offense should be just fine this season.

Post-Spring Review: Running Backs

The Huskies emerged from spring with several capable ball-carriers to line up behind whoever ends up at the quarterback position and you can bet the Washington coaches will rely heavily on the running game early in the season as Jake Locker's replacement gets comfortable. With that in mind, here is a post-spring look at the running back and fullback positions as we head into the offseason...

SEATTLE - Now that Spring Football is over, it's never too early to look ahead at what the two-deeps might look like when fall camp breaks at Washington, and considering there will be a number of players pulling off red jerseys and putting on either purple or white, this two-deep might look a little different than what you might imagine.

Coach's Corner

What can you say about spring football? It’s about getting reps, particularly for your younger kids, in order to develop them fundamentally in accordance with their position areas. It's basics, to be sure - but it’s extremely important to have repetitions in anything you do in athletics. Practice is all about the reps.

Saturday Scrimmage Report

Saturday's practice was arguably the longest since Steve Sarkisian has been at UW, lasting at least 150 minutes. He said he wanted to get 100 scrimmage plays in, and it sounds like he did just that. Sarkisian said that there were over 250 coaches that came out for their coaches clinic, a great turnout. Many of them stayed to watch practice, but not very many people were left by the end of it.

Could Fogerson help complete Sark's arsenal?

History has shown that when Steve Sarkisian has quality fullbacks and tight ends at his disposal, he uses them. For real. It's slight of hand; they are as integral a part of his offense as the running backs and wide receivers. It complements what he tries to do in a way that gives him a full deck to work with, and it stretches every part of the field against every defensive player imaginable.

What might “Life after Locker” look like?

Washington had a wildcard on just about every down in Jake Locker. Number 10 had the ability to break free on any down if the defense didn’t shadow him. Thus, coordinators had to account for his speed on every snap. With Locker wowing onlookers at this weekend's NFL combine, I thought it would be good to start looking ahead to what we might see at UW now that Montlake Jake is gone.

2011 Recruiting Rundown

Now that Signing Day is done, Dawgman has taken the time to sort through the rubble to see where how Washington Huskies finished out the recruiting process. Did they finish out the way they wanted to? Did they address all their needs? Did they get a solid mix of stars and team players? Was their haul effectively balanced between offense and defense?

Looking Beyond the Holiday Bowl, Part I

Washington won their last three games in a row, and not only earned a trip to the Holiday Bowl, but they got a huge measure of revenge in beating Nebraska. That is a great reward not only for a team that worked so hard to overcome a three-game losing streak, but also for a program that has not been to the post season in nearly a decade.

This will be Sarkisian's first return to Troy since leaving USC nearly two years ago. After the Huskies' 16-13 upset of the then No.3 Trojans in Seattle last year, does USC have something special cooking for Sark and company?
