Maryland Well Represented at Crab Bowl

The University of Maryland 2008 recruiting class looks like a good one, and when their coaching staff breaks down the game tapes from the first annual Crab Bowl, they are going to be very pleased with what they see. Maryland had multiple recruits on both the Baltimore and Washington D.C. rosters and all of those players showed promise.

On Saturday the press was asked to turn in their votes to determine who would be named the most valuable players of the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., teams as well as the game’s best lineman. Both of Scout.com’s votes went for Caleb Porzel on the D.C. side and after taking in the entire game again Porzel is our overall Crab Bowl MVP.

Washington D.C. Game Thoughts

The Washington D.C. all stars went into Saturday’s first annual Crab Bowl with a lot of swagger and expectations of winning and they did not disappoint. Using a solid rushing attack and a consistent passing attack they controlled the tempo of the game on offense all day. On defense, they relied upon an unblockable defensive line and a group of swarming linebackers.

Good Counsel Stars Porzel, Jenkins Talk Terps

While Maryland’s ever-growing profile as a football talent hotbed can be a bonus for the Terps, it can also be a curse, in that many schools come to poach recruits. That's especially so in the case of Caleb Porzel and Jelani Jenkins of Good Counsel. Both are seeing interest from myriad powerhouses, and UM's staff is trying to keep both in state. TurtleSportsReport.com spoke with both this weekend…

Local RB w/Devine-esque Qualities Eyes Terps

Many eyes were opened last week at Byrd Stadium when Noel Devine, WVU's sensational freshman running back, sprinted 136 yards on five carries. Two of those eyes belonged to Good Counsel junior Caleb Porzel, who, like Devine, is an underized runner with great speed. Porzel was in the stands, and he'll likely be on a lot of recruiting wishlists if he maintains the prolific pace on which he's been.
