Navy position battles continue

The Navy Midshipmen held their first full scrimmage of summer practice on Saturday August 11. The Mids' depleted wide receiver corps took another hit when wide receiver Matt Aiken injured his right knee. Aiken was hurt when he was tackled on an end around run. Aiken will be out of the lineup for most of this week. He had experienced knee problems during his high school career.

Seven Reasons Why Navy Will Be Better in 2012

After five straight losses, it’s a challenge for even the most optimistic of Navy fans not to concede the team’s fading bowl chances. But that doesn’t mean Ken Niumatalolo’s Midshipmen are headed to pre-triple option era status. Signs of life for next year’s team are apparent, and even if 2011 is lost, here are seven reasons to count on a better 2012.

FIRST-HALF GRADES FOR NAVY OFFENSE

Navy is 2-4 and even though their offense is ahead of several statistical categories as compared to this time last season, overall the unit has been inconsistent and in crunch time, they haven’t answered the bell – especially in the red zone. Their experienced offensive line needs to lead the way in the second half if this team has any chance of producing a winning season. Time for the grades.

Head coach Ken Niumatalolo stood on the practice field this past Wednesday evening and declared Navy's spring camp a success. It was the last of 14 workouts for the Midshipmen, who opened spring camp on March 28 and concluded it with Friday's annual Blue-Gold game.
"I'm encouraged by where we're at. We answered a lot of questions," Niumatalolo said.

Report Card: Navy vs. Maryland

Every Navy fan can agree with head coach Ken Niumatalolo's post game assessment that this is one of the hardest losses he's ever been associated with. Navy offense moved the ball all day, dominating time of possession as they failed to convert five times inside the red zone. Navy's Ricky Dobbs was stopped short on what would have been a game winning score on fourth-and-goal with 34 seconds left

Navy Scrimmage Notebook

The Navy defense got the better of the Navy offense on Saturday, as the first, second, and third team ‘D’ held the Midshipmen offensive units to just three scoring drives in seventeen attempts. Defensive dominance wasn’t the only storyline of the scrimmage, however, with plenty of players vying for playing time on both sides of the football. Here are my observations from Saturday’s action.
